Install Saeng Quick-Scans on your windshield and stop using the side mirrors.

You must hit some serious bumps or the ball joints in the holding the mirror in the housing is loose. I never had that much play on my side mirrors.

Thumbs up Re: 2006 k1200lt side view mirrors

It sounds like the mirror is not seated on the posts. I had the same problem with my 05, but it did take a solid hit to unseat the mirror. there were no cars behind me and I was able to retrieve it with only a little scratch. If you look on the flat part of the unit that connects to the bike there should be some tape that is holding some spacers (washers) that will provide the necessary adjustment for the mirrors to be fully seated on the mounting posts (3). It may take some trial and error to get it right. Then you should get some plastic wire ties or fishing leader to fasten the mirrors so that If they become separated they will not be lost.
I did also install the Saeng mirrors as suggested on the shield,to eliminate the blind spot

they are expensive to replace.
