Sold my 1100LT, now what?

I'm thinking dual sport. I would like to get a 800GS but can't see myself putting 14K into a bike in the next few years.

I found a local XR650R that looks kind of like something I want, but I don't know if I want to kick it all the time when going short distances. I had a 650L in high school but wasn't too impressed by it. But supposedly from what I've read the R is completely different.

I think another option might be a DRZ400E.

Any opinions? I will use it almost everyday to go to another farm, about 14 miles round trip. Then pretty much wherever else I go that isn't too far.

KLR 650 or the Suzuki DR650 are other good choices, just depends on how much and what kind of dirt you want to do.

03' KTM 450 EXC Dually

The KlR 650 would be my choice, based on reading about it. Good legs, good speed, good comfort, good price, etc..

Hey Neil-
How's the weather in God's part of Ohio??
One of my favorite rides was an Honda XL600R..although it did introduced me to a real tankslapper
Plenty of power ,great in the dirt, just plain fun!!!!
Wheelies, straight uphills in southern Ohio and you don't have to trailer it to get there. Big thumpers are a blast if it wasn't a GSA my "other" bike would be a big bore single.

BTW-sometime tell me 'bout your connection to Smith Dairy.
I use them exclusively for my market.

Get the Kawasaki 650 Dual Sport. Great bike at an even greater price! Or, you could get a GT!

Weather not too bad tomarrow is supposed to be worse.

I think I will go test the 650R and see how I like it. The only thing I don't like about it is the rear subframe is very weak.

As far as Smith Dairy, they are not doing too hot. My sister used to work right with the owners in the office (Schmidt's). They are pretty good friends and her husband works there second shift. PM me on what you want to know.

I've sat on a 08 KLR. Seat seemed really comfortable and the bars located for a nice seating position. But from being stuck with a 4 cyclinder BMW engine for the last 4 years, the 07 I test rode seemed like it had no hop in its giddyup. I guess it is something I will have to get used to from a Thumper.

I don't need no mirror rattling GT! I've already got the best sport touring bike!

(At least that is what I repeat in my mind )

Howard, I hope your bike sells. Looking forward to what your next bike is going to be.

I can't wait for spring. I miss my Friday and Saturday night rides to southern OH or PA
