Cool Extended Warranties

Curiosity - are extended warranties cheaper when you buy them at original purchase of a new bike, rather than just before your factory warranty runs out?

Re: Extended Warranties

I'm not sure it makes a difference if you buy it from the dealer. They can offer them cheaper, but only they can decide if they will do so. If you shop around yourself, you can often find a better deal. I've seen some postings on doing just that.

What I did though was buy mine with the motorcycle. That way it was also financed with the motorcycle. So I didn't have any out-of-pocket expense. I'm not sure I would have done that if I were going to take the 5 years to pay it off though. I plan to pay it off much sooner. If things go as planned. You just never know though what the future will hold.

Thumbs up Re: Extended Warranties

Negotiate the bike deal. Then ask how much for the extended warranty. Offer to pay 60% of what they are asking. They will tell you they can't do it. Tell them you know for a fact that there is at least 100% mark up and you realize they are in it to make a profit and you'll be glad to pay $100-$150 over cost. Otherwise your not buying the bike. You'll get the price. I've been in the car business a long time and know this to be a fact. Also thats what I did when I bought my new RT.

Re: Extended Warranties

When I bought a KTM 950, they were supposed to give me a big break on the bike but because it was one of the first ones here in Calif they backed off from the deal but gave me a 5yr extended warranty that retailed for around $1500 for $450 at that they still made $50. Dealers make lots of money selling those.
