Trailer Week is starting

I am working at a convention in Orlando and on my way down I passed more HD's on trailers heading south than I could ever count.

They are like a week early for the beginning of Bike Week...

Must be trying to get a good spot to park the trailer near the beach.

I love the story about a BMW guy watching trailer after trailer hauling V-twins to bike week. Then one guy came by actually riding his V-twin motorcycle, BMW guy asks him: "Wattsammtter, your trailer broke?"

Re: Trailer Week is starting

I think you all are missing the point here. In other threads it has been discussed that when BMW riders want to go somewhere like a bike gathering, they ride.

The boutique bikers (HD's) trailer their bikes then ride them around the gathering.

Don't worry MikeERideWNC, I understood your post and thought it was quite funny.

Re: Trailer Week is starting

I saw a pickup truck towing a nice enclosed two-bike trailer on I-71 in Columbus, OH today, heading south. I assumed he was heading to Bike Week but have no way of knowing, of course. The trailer had very nice Harley-Davidson graphics on it.

Maybe we should all be grateful that we have bikes that are capable of riding to an event like Bike Week, and bikes that we enjoy riding long distance.

Leave the trailers at home or don't even take the bike. I'm tired of reading 'Live to Ride, Ride to Live' and 'If I had to Explain, U Wouldn't Understand' on these things. These guys are 'dedicated'?

Trailers

Let's give jvalny a little room to trailer in good conscience.

If you live in the North and want to get to some place you can ride this time of year a trailer does make sense.

Cool Re: Trailer Week is starting

I am getting pretty tired of Harley bashing. People who engage in that practice are comparing apples to oranges. Harleys are made for a specific purpose: cruising. In that category, BMW tried to compete, (CLC), but got its ass whooped. The opposite is true when it comes to "sport" riding. Think about the situation like selecting a tool for a specific purpose...

Want to go a long distance? You need a touring bike.

Want to cruise the bars with your 20-something girlfriend? You need a chromed cruiser.

Want to set off car alarms? You need straight pipes.

Going off road? Dual purpose or dirt bike.

This doesn't mean people can't try to use a hammer to turn a screw, it is just that the results might not be quite what they wanted!

To all of my 2 wheeled bros... ride on! (even if it is only up and down the boulevard)

Re: Trailer Week is starting

Touchy...touchy...touchy....harassing... making fun of... joking with... use any descriptive term you want, but it is part of the fun of life.

I have two sister-in-laws who ride Harley's with their husbands, a brother with a 47 PanHead, a friend with a Ducati ST4, a bunch of guys I work with have a plethora of different bikes.

We chide each other all the time. The questions (and harassing statements ) asked to me about my LT are: (and not particulary in this order):

Why did you leave the recliner at home this time?

Where's the satellite dish mount?

Can I crash on your couch and rest at the next stop?

Maybe you oughta let the kids and the dog out for a break at the next stop. (in regards to the saddle bags and rear trunk)

My Ducati friend always likes the statement; See ya at the end, my nap should be over by the time you get there !
(My response is usually around the line of the reason I have the bags and trunk is to pick up all the pieces of you guys along the way !)

And many more, as I tend to give them back as fast as they harass me.

SO.... the moral of this story..... it's a two-way, give it and take it street of barbs and jokes. Or as Slim might say:

Ride wat ya brung, ya brung wat ya ride !

But makin' fun of the HD Boutique riders is way too much fun to give up.

WILD HOGS !!

Lots of good reasons to ride:
Freedom, wind, rain, wife/girlfriend, epic journey, memories, enough luggage for your stuff, etc.

Lots of good reasons to trailer:
Freedom, wind, rain, wife/girlfriend, not enough luggage for your stuff, medical reasons, bringing more than one bike to ride, working vacation, etc.

In my experience, most motorcycles that I pass by when touring on the road are HD's. Maybe that is because I'm from the Midwest. It is fun to make fun of them, but they do ride 'em.

I've said before that the reason I've trailered the LT is so I can ride and my wife can drive the car when we get to our destination. I go one way on the bike and she goes another way to see things in the car. We're both happy.

Re: Trailer Week is starting

I am currently in St Augustine, FL (originating in CT) but I passed numerous trailers headed south and all of them containing Iron Horses. Oh ya, there were some riders but the trailers out numbered them by far.

I saw a few riders on Wings and at a GA rest stop I had the chance to talk to the only LT rider in the batch. He was out of Baltimore and headed for Daytona for the first time. A cool guy.

I agree with BMW PHREAK

NOW im started to look at adding an FJR1300.

we all ride what we have for different reasons.

Re: Trailer Week is starting

I wish I had the money to get a HD and a trailer. I'd head down to Daytona for some sun and suds. I don't bring my new RT out in the salt and ashes and I wouldn't bring my HD out in that crap either (if I had one, maybe some day). Now if I lived about 300 miles south of here I would definately ride. As long as it makes them happy, more power to them.

Re: Trailer Week is starting

I just got back from a few days at bike week and talk about sensory overload, wow! My two best friends from WV came down for the weekend and nothing to do but head to Daytona.......

Good thing I had the ear plugs cause it was loud on main street. Constant bikes all night, just a few BMW's..... Had a great time with my friends, but one night was enough.
