Wink Back Home

Slim,

I started on a 1100RT, traded to an 00 K1200LTC. then 4 years later traded for a H.D. Ultra. Had a Triumph Daytona, Triumph Tiger and R1200GS along the way and ended up with an 07 K1200GT.

Well, I'm back to my old K1200LT now and will be selling my GT soon !

I'm really not sure why I left, just got bored maybe, or something like that, but based on my experiences with the other bikes, my personal riding style and needs, the LT just does it for me.

Getting my old bike back with only about 37K on the Odo was a bonus !

Lt

Good points vs. bad. I would do a search cause if I had to write the difference it would take me a long time. There is nothing like an LT. I love the bike, took to Alaska and back home. The bike is outstanding.

Greetings, Slim! What a question for your very first post.

I would tell you to take a good month or two (cause thats how long it will take you!) and review all the LT posts--current and old. There won't be a question that's not addressed and an opinion that's not expressed! By the time your done researching, you'll have a wealth of knowledge to make your decision with.

Welcome Slim

There is a few differences in years. In 02 they changed the brakes. In '05 they uped the HP a bit, changed the front rake (which some say makes it more controllable at lower speeds), and added a hydraulic centerstand. Those are the major differences besides a little bit of cosmetic.

If you have the money sitting around I would go for a newer bike that has at least 2 years of warranty left. If you buy a 2002 with no warranty for 9,000 and two months later it breaks down you will want to "Chuck the bike".

I went the cheap route and bought a 2000. Especially now here in Ohio they should be coming up cheap.

Saturday is BMW Columbus' open house. check this thread

I think Howard is going, you might want to get ahold of him and he can talk to you there maybe.

I wished I lived down where you do. The LT is one of the finest touring machines in the twisties.
