OK - enuf with the reverse elistism here. These good folks were likely on a HOG Toy Run Parade - charity for the kids, etc. A lot of kids watch these parades and love the goofy dress up stuff. Note that the street had no other traffic - likely closed by LEO.

For a fact, the largest single fund raisers for the local charities, including the women's shelter, here in Montgomery County, Texas - is the local HD HOG chapter. Last year it was over $85,000. In my book, you can give these folks a hard time after you've equaled their contribution.

- just my $.02

Post Biker toy parade..

It was part of a toy run that included around 2000+ bikes of all types. More crotch rockets than BMW's. In fact I only saw several Beamers. With the lousy media coverage we have here it didnt' even make the papers that several thousand bikes were involved in this event and the ride across town.

We didn't hear about it before hand, I only heard about it Saturday morning, the day before after I started searching to see if there was one.

Our local papers are your garden variety type liberal rag. Do something good for the community and it doesn't rate. Here are this morning's headlines:

Led Zeppelin to return to stage amid hype and nostalgia

Upscale Vegas hotels shoot for stars in bid to lure big spenders

Ellen Degeneres films segment in Flagstaff, NAU

And here's my favorite....:

Sturdy tree garners recognition

Yepper it's about a big sturdy tree that get's recognized for being a ..well..big sturdy tree.

but why cover the bike toy parade.......

These bikers were only donating couple thousand toys (worth $10.00 or more) and the entrance fee of $25.00 per person raised at least $50,000.00 and add at least a third of the bikes had two riders, another $17,000.00 in cash.

So, if my math is correct, 2000 toys, $10.00/toy = $20,000.00 (minimum)

$50,000.00 + $17,000.00 = $67,000.00 cash

Under privilege kids get $87,000.00 +/- in toys and cash.

But damn..that sure is a sturdy tree !!!

Greetings KIC! I don't think you quite understand the Socialist mind set. You have a bunch of guys, most probably NOT PC, riding around on monster machines that make a lot of noise and go 200 MPH. These guys are just polluting the environment, using up valuable resources and furthering a consumerist Christmas which just benefits the EVIL large corporations!

Now imagine these EVIL USERS, instead of delivering toys and money to needy children, had arranged for the children to HUG the big sturdy tree! Better yet, while hugging the tree, let's plant some more little trees that will grow up into more big, sturdy trees! Now, while said children are hugging and planting trees, we present them with the toys they so disparately want. Of course, there are no loud, 200 MPH crotch rockets to be found. Instead, only whisper quiet hybrid vehicles (while tauting their near zero emissions, of course)! Throw in a few meaningless buzz words: "this gift wrapping is 100% post consumer content recycled."

Imagine the press you would receive! "EVIL, polluting, death-defying M/C gang goes Green!" "Killers plant trees!" "Motorcycle monsters plant trees and even help needy children!"

The M/C guys DID SOMETHING GOOD for needy children. The local Socialist rag columnists FEEL GOOD cause the M/C guys DID SOMETHING for both the environment and, as a minor note, needy children. Everyone happy!

OK - I humbly accept the 40 lashes for getting on my soapbox - and for being "grinchy". That's what I get for posting with a bad attitude after a bi*ch of a day at work.

Perhaps an explanation of perspective is also in order. - I rode with the aforementioned HOG chapter as a road captain (along with another esteemed memeber of this board) for a number of years. In the Toy Runs we sponsored, you could count the BMW rider participants on one hand out of the 500-750 bikes each year. As a PGR rider, the percentage of BMW riders that participate is even less. Anybody have any idea why this is?

I have to admit that since I am "between rides", I have not yet had an opportunity to meet or ride with a lot of you, and hopefully that will change very soon. Please accept my apology for being a little too hard on some folks just havin' fun with our HD brothers (and sisters).

Communication...

I think Beamer's would be more prevalent if the communication flowed a little better through the ranks. I called our local BMW shop to ask if they knew when the motorcycle toy parade was, and they didn't know.

I had thought about posting it and trying to get a bunch of the local BMWLT members here to ride as a group, but the timing didn't work out.

Searching the internet on Saturday came up with the links for the ride on Sunday but that was a little too late for me.

I did put it on my calender and in my PDA to look it up earlier next year. Maybe we can make a real show of it !
