Question Rick Mayer, Bill Mayer

Just received the latest BMWON magazine and there's a full page ad for Bill Mayer custom seats. A few pages later there's and ad for Rick Mayer custom seats.

What's the details?

Signed,

Confused

Please ignore. If I had used the Search function, I would have found the answer to my question.

Bill Mayer Saddles is run by Rocky Mayer, Bill's son. He's in SoCal.

Rick Mayer is Rocky's brother and he's in NorCal near Reading. They are not affiliated. They both make custom saddles.

I prefer Rick' seats, but Rocky does a decent job too.

I have one from Rocky on another bike and love it, a friend just had Rocky make one for his RT and he says it's better than the Russel he took off. Rockys seats have very few seams in them. Rocky's shop is in Ojai and you can do a ride-in, takes about 3 to 4hrs to get the seat done.

Had Rick do a new seat for my R100RT this past spring. Although it took some time I could not have been more pleased with the entire process. Had numerous calls and emails from Rick, he is great to deal with. Oh and most important I love the seat.

You will find their seats different.

I have Rocky- as I like a slightly firmer seat. Ricks tend to be softer.
Rocky's tend to have less seams- I don't like seams under my legs-especially with welting.

The last Rick saddle I played with was using the "thermo" foam similar to the Temperpwdic mattress. Not sure, but the Thermo foam I have here is harder in the winter till your but warms it up. There are many grades of soft/firmness available but all settle/mold to you as your but warms them.

I don't know about Rocky's saddles, but Rick built one for me about 4 years ago and I absolutely love it. I put 1546 miles in 22 hours on it without one sore spot. I highly recommend Rick's saddles.
