Keep going guys! It won't be long now before they just ban bikes from the National Park System altogether.

Why are people ALWAYS re-active instead of PRO-Active?????

But hey, at least Darryl is making plenty of money off our pastime!

Happens every once in a while. This isn't the first time and it won't be the last. Although I didn't attend the MOA Rally in Fontana the law enforcement was very stringent and unfair. The LEO's get a collective hair up their collective ass now and again. For the most part whenever I've been there they've stayed visible but in the background until some dick/dickette splatters him/herself. Then they go in an help scrape up the pieces.

And if I recollect correctly, the Cherahola accounts for more deaths than the Dragon. And Darryl normally doesn't shoot over there. Go figger.

I mean people generally won't think ahead and contemplate the ramifications of their reactions. (you must see this all the time in your line of work, I would think) So instead of people like Darryl being responsible about the effects they (he) are (is) having on the region and thinking about how it is being ruined, nothing will change until it is legislated away from us, or is patrolled so severely it won't be worth going there any longer.

So does every Chamber of Commerce on both sides of the state border. They may not say, "Come on and race our roads like idiots." But neither does Killboy. And if you want to find out how not to ride the roads go to his website and the Tail's website. You'll see in pictures and print the appropriate gear to wear (ATGATT) and the appropriate courtesies (stay on your side of the double yellow, respect slower riders, slower riders respect others, don't ride beyond your abilities, etc) as well as current conditions and upcoming events.

Deal's Gap Sucks! (Can I tell you how I really feel? ) I was there over the 4th. Nothing but overweight men (and women) on cruisers doing "parade laps". I'm never going back. Fifteen years ago it was a great place to ride/drive but not now.

If you just have to go . . . go during the week and ride early.

Several years ago I was there when Tennessee was using a helicopter AND they drove unmarked cars down to the old service station (which is in North Carolina) and took plate numbers . . . . just in case they saw you speeding later on.

That's total Bullshit and you know it.
I'm not going to re-hash why I didn't go and get into a fight with a guy almost twice my age, over something that I had nothing to do with. I'm not someone who thinks I need to prove something by hurting someone just because I can.

On the other hand, I love how you (and Ken for that matter) keep trying to bring the whole thing back around to ME as a person, instead of the ISSUES. Funny too, how you just jump in to take a potshot at me now and then, but call me the keyboard hero. I hope I didn't offend your delicate sensibilities this time.

Now, I can't talk for Rock, but my take is: if you have a problem with Daryl, why didn't you stop and TALK to him. Doesn't require beating the shit out of him, though some "old" guys might really surprise you. You can also email him, though I think he has an idea now after reading this thread.

I've never met Rock, but I bet he'd say to your face what he writes on this forum.

I don't agree at all. If Darryl didn't believe it was totally acceptable to wipe out on the road, he wouldn't be making fun of it by giving away free pictures of the accident. He and his cronies, believe it is totally acceptable to ride a public road routinely, at a pace which could result in a fall. Isn't that breeding a culture of irresponsible behavior? I'm only using that one point as an example, I could go after other things, like the fact that they (he) promotes ATGATT, respecting the double yellow, etc. But NOT anything about speed limits.
But my main point is the over-exploitation of the public area, for the benefit of a few, at the expense of a great many. No thought has been given to how many riders can that road handle, what type of riders are being attracted to the area, etc.

I went on Killboy.com and posted on a couple wipeouts, I wasn't rude or using crude language or anything like that. I put my opinion that it's not a racetrack, and it's not cool what they're doing there. He deleted my posts AND blocked my blogger account. I guess that's why you don't see ANY posts from ANYONE who doesn't think Killboy is their hero. It's why you don't see any posts from people in the area who are really angry about Darryl and his cronies exploiting the area.
Secondly, I DID email him to ask him to explain why he runs his website like a communist regime. Of course he didn't answer. I also added my opinion that it is wrong for him to do what he is doing. Of course he didn't respond about that either. And you'll notice that when I challenged him on the other thread to explain his actions, he never came back on here either.

As for saying something to someone face to face, believe me, I have no problem giving my opinion about this and LOTS of other topics

Why not put a 24 hour manned entrance/exit gate and charge a hefty fee? If you crash, and it's your fault, you get billed for the cost of the public safety response. Exception: if the hose and mop crew has to come out, well, we cut you a break on costs. WTF, we're givers! OR, shut the road down all together. You get to tour the area in a special state tram.

All the people/businesses in the area are making money--and paying taxes and fees to the state. Let's pull their business license. Shut 'em down!

I wrote to the County Commissioners and received a reply.

They stated the were "unaware" of the State Police actions in the area. They also promised to look into it as they are grateful for those who appreciate their state and ride there.

Well, of course, OneShot, the tram is government owned! Don't they MAKE and RUN the best and safest trams?! Hell, I asked Fidel, and he said that ALL HIS trams ALWAYS run on time AND are safe. What more do you need? Are you saying that you're against safe, on time trams?

I don't get this leftist/socialistic stuff that you're talking about either. I just want to help you. I just want to save you from yourself. Is that so wrong?

I have nothing against capitalism, either. The problem is that it is incompatable with today's Amerika. Are you saying that the sheeple, er, people are capable of or even want to think for themselves? If the sheeple start thinking for themselves, they might have to take responsibility for their actions! Can you imagine a society where people are actually held accountable for their actions?! Can you honestly tell me that's what you want? Is that today's Amerika? I don't think so!

No apology necessary, OneShot. I did not take it personaly. You didn't understand that I am just here to help.

Now, let me tell you about my Gap "special assessment" schedule......

John, I am not "dinging" you or bagging on your post. I was responding to all Darryl's pic's showing LEO's driving in an illegal manner--suggesting that if you are spanking people for crossing the double yellow, let's say, you better not cross it yourself (unless you are doing it legally: lights/siren). As LEO's, we will always be held to a higher standard and be expected to set a GOOD example for people.

Now, John, about the very first ticket I ever received, from a motor, for 43/35!.....

Well, that would be a racetrack, which is really where the guys should be riding the way they do on 129 anyway. But you're point is valid. There should be a fiscal responsibility when an area is over saturated like that. I'm not sure that the taxation of Killboy is going to offset the amount he's costing the area, so it may make sense.

Yes, 43/35 IS speeding. 36/35 IS speeding. That's why I also paid my ticket and shut the F'K up! I WAS speeding.

We have the LETTER of the law and the SPIRIT of the law. I would suggest that LEO's would always be more effective enforcing the spirit of the law. In almost 18 years, and hundreds of traffic court cases, I have NEVER lost one yet. Why? Because my testimony before even judge not-so-friendly demonstrates enforcement of the spirit of the law. Reasonableness stands!

Now, about Officer Happy-Pen that tagged you in Nebraska....Sure wouldn't ever want to find him on my beat....

Speeeed Bummmmmps

I'd hate to see this happen, but for those bent of controlling every person's actions will love this idea.

Their Solution!!!
Place one speed bump on the IN and one on the OUT of every curve and one bump in between the turns.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Upside: The cute little road-crossing critters will be happier.

Their Solution!!!
Place one speed bump on the IN and one on the OUT of every curve and one bump in between the turns.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Upside: The cute little road-crossing critters will be happier.
While there would be some merit to your idea on a short stretch, the cost of adding speed bumps would be high, as would be the liability. In effect speed bumps are dangerous. One of the reasons is that some vehicles can take them faster than others. Picture yourself slowing down to a crawl before going over a speed bump on your LT, 2-up and with gear, being careful not to scrape your transmission guard while the Jeep right behind you comes charging because it can "fly" over the bumps with its high ground clearance... Not exactly a safe scenario.

But wait a minute. If the argument has been that you can't blame anyone for causing there to be too much traffic, or for having accidents, how can there be liability to the State in your example? If the argument is it's the riders own fault for wiping out (even if that means his bike slides across the road and kills an oncoming bike or two) and nobody elses, how can trying to make the road safer be the fault of the anyone but the drivers? Sounds like if it's going to cause people to have to slow down, it's wrong, but if it's going to allow people to get their picture taken, it's good....

For this you will need to ask a lawyer. Living in CA where people are sue happy, I can guarantee that this scenario in my state would cause a lot of litigations.

No argument there. If however the suggested speed bumps themselves become the cause of a collision or loss of control - let's face it, speed bumps are not natural, and I have seen dangerous implementations - there will be legal consequences.

Causing people to slow down may or may not be a good idea. This is another case of your government making decisions for you, and possibly because of the number of complaints. How this will be implemented must not make the "cure" worse than the disease.
If people want to get their picture taken they can go to Walmart

I'm not sure though. Did you just read the article in the ON about the guy who rode through the corn meal or whatever it was that got spilled onto the road? The court basically stated it's up to the driver to assess the risk and proceed accordingly. This would seem to be one of those cases. It would be like suing a condo complex for their speed bumps if you fell going to visit someone. I like the idea, except after thinking about it a little more, it might make the area a mecca for motards!

I see another big issue with speed bumps before and after every turn... Because they are designed to slow traffic to a crawl picture a collision with multiple parties seriously injured. First it would take a very long time for emergency vehicles to get on site, then medics would need to take the victims to the hospital... Not only it would take forever, but the ambulance ride would also be very bumpy (pun intended). Then instead you may have to use medevac, a much more expensive solution, and the availability would also become an issue.

Hmmm. that's a good point. I hadn't thought of that one... yeah the cost would go way up if you're medevacing people all the time.... Hmmm.... maybe not such a good idea afterall.... NEXT!

In So Kal, you would not believe how many Kommunities are doing just that. It's especially effective on the street racing crew cause their cars are so low.

Smile New Idea ! ! !

Sorry I forgot about the SNOW removal equipment that's needed up there. As we all know speed bumps plow equipment don't mix.

NEW IDEA: Lay down the lower multi strips that vibrate the fillings in your head instead. Snow plows plow over these just fine up north. Place these strips in the same places as I said for the larger bumps.

I can't believe I'm suggesting ideas that govern people more so. What's wrong with me, I've been a conservative, Conservative Republican since day one.
Sorry, I need to go listen to RUSH now.

Sunday Ride

Was up there today about 10AM and the mood seemed reserved and behaved.

Glad to see the LEOs up there keeping us safer, even if they were riding Kawis.

They probably don't mind getting paid to go up there and be entertained for the day.

We got within 15 miles of there on Saturday. Cops and idiot drivers all over the place on Hwy 411. 5PM apparently is not a good touring hour in the area.
Turned around and went to our friends new home, had a few wobbly pops and a bbq.

Wheels up at 7AM Sunday, 700 miles on the slab. Atlanta was a bit nervous, but no issues going right through downtown. 20 mile detour off of I-75 at the I-10 interchange ( just HOW do you flip a big rig and close 6 lanes of traffic ?) Saw a few HD products along the way, and a grand total of 2 LT's. ( one was Black and towing a trailer, south of Macon). The shocker was seeing no less than 3 broken down Gold wings...no kidding !

Deals gap is too short and overrated...the Redwood forest is not.

So long Tennessee, bin there done that got the t-shirt.....I hope they put a 6 lane interstate through there.

LOL
