Help me Dear Abby

Dear Abby,

I don't need another bike especially an older one.. BUT,

There's this 1984 R100RT that I can get for a pretty good price..

48K on the clock new tires and it's supposedly in really good shape.

Why am I going to look at it tomorrow ?

Is there something wrong with me ?

Should I buy the bike just cause "I want it " ?

Thanks

Dear "Addicted:"

It sounds like you have a fairly healthy addiction--as far as addictions go. 48k on an 84, huh? Nice! Hardly even broken in. I disagree with you, however. You CANNOT have too many bikes--especially older ones! There is nothing wrong with you. What better reason to buy a bike than cause you want it?! Did I need my LT, er, old lady's Minivan, when I bought it? When I wanted something a little smaller and much sportier, and bought a GT, er, hot-rod old lady's minivan, did I need it? Of course not! BUT, I bought them anyway! Hell, two hundred years ago, when I was 20, one of my old boyfriends had one of them Harleys with the big vibrating engine.......sorry.

Anywho, You only live once--then you die for a long time. So, I say, go for it!

You're welcome, Abby.

P.S. If buying another bike will piss anyone off, such as the old hag, then you have another good reason to buy the bike!

Dear Abby?
"Whose brain was that?"
"Abby."

Will the R100RT be your first Airhead? If so, welcome.
The R100RT is a beautiful bike.
Check out boxerworks.com and airheads.org
Old BMW motorcycles make for a great hobby. There are much worse "additions". Gopher it.
Find peace in yourself and your airhead, Grasshopper.

Wait a couple of days. If you want something long enough and bad enough then it becomes a need.
Buy it then and write it off as a medical/ mental aid on your taxes.

If you're writing Dear Abby, you don't need another bike. You may need to go shopping for pads though...

You know Jay, I don't think I've heard the word hag used this much since last Hallowe'en. I sure hope you're kidding, or just trying to macho-up to fit in with the boys here. If you really believe half of what you type, then I'm truly sorry for the life you must lead (even if, or especially if, you don't see it the same way).

Guess I'm one of the rare guys who actually found a beautiful, funny, smart, sexy woman, and married her. Many folks here have met Dayle, and I doubt anyone would disagree with the above statements (even though I am a bit biased ).

There's no comparison between someone you love, and a piece of machinery, period. And if they really love you back, then they'll understand and support what makes you happy.

Well said, Ken. I especially like the "married her" part. Commitment and responsibility is getting to be a rare commodity.

Got Her.

Got the bike. Picked up a nail in the rear tire after about 20 miles. Had to have it towed the rest of the way home. But that first 20 miles was great !

I was joking with Lindy on the way down that I hoped she didn't do anything to deserve a less than fitting name.. She did..

Think I used the "B" word when the valve stem started leaked after I plugged the tire. But I rode it a couple of miles with her tail wagging so I cooked the valve stem...Probably lucky I didn't wreck it..

But she's home.. I even got a BMW charger and Haynes manual with it..

Ken, I'm sure the "hag" line was just kidding...

Every one knows it's SWMBO.

Later

John

Ken, ME KIDDING?! Why I would NEVER do that! I resemble, er, resent that implication! I challenge anybody to find so much as one thread, in this most great forum, where I was even approaching kidding.

Now, if you guys don't mind, I will try to control this big shit-eating grin, er, the tears running down my cheeks, and go back to my miserable, sorry existence!

She can--and I unchain her out of the kitchen at least once a week--wether she likes it or not!

This statement leaves me with one question . . . is Ken and Dayle actually married?! I think his statements and yours become amazingly humorous and ironic if they are not.

Ken???!!!??? Inquiring minds and all... Are you committed to such a wonderful Human Being, or just simply involved?

Yes Joe, we're married. Though we were committed to each other from the beginning, which is way more important than some legal certificate or quasi-religious ceremony. Feel better now, Joe?
