Fallen Biker - BMWMOA Rally

To whom it may concern:

As some of you may know, at 8:00am Sunday July 15, 2007 Daniel Christ from the Iowa City, Iowa, Pure Stodge Touring Association was killed by a drunk driver while leaving the BMWMOA International Rally in West Bend Wisconsin.

Our sadness of his death is eclipsed by our outrage over the intoxicated woman who killed him being released on only $ 2,500.00 cash bond. We are planning a protest on Thursday August 2nd, 2007 at the Dodge County Courthouse where we intend to pack the courtroom for her preliminary hearing. This is to show our support for the family and to let the court know we are watching and we care very much what happens.

While we understand it may be impossible for you to attend this hearing, we would ask that you write the District Attorney and share your thoughts concerning the appropriate penalty for this unfortunate, completely avoidable yet all too common occurrence.

Please write to:

Steven G. Bauer
Dodge County District Attorney
Administration Building
127 E. Oak Street
Juneau, Wisconsin 53039-1329

To retain credibility please be respectful in your comments. If you would like to send me the letters so I can personally deliver them to him send them to:

Cabranes Law Offices
1442 N. Memorial Drive
Racine, Wisconsin 53404

It doesn't matter the brand of motorcycle you ride, we need to let the court know we are out there. Should you have any questions please feel free to email [email protected] with the subject line of PROTEST RIDE.

Sincerely,
John and Kristin Cabranes
Racine, Wisconsin

Dear Mr. Bauer:

My husband and I were recently in West Bend, WI covering the BMW motorcycle rally for travel publications. The event was calm and family oriented. We are appalled to learn that a fellow rider was killed by a recently released drunk driver. Had we known Wisconsin was so easy on drunken offenders, we would not have come. We live in Washington, DC and also have a home in Virginia. Neither place has tolerance for impaired driving. In fact, Virginia recently increased all moving violation fines to drive home the point that an automobile is a deadly weapon when used incorrectly.

We implore you to pursue the maximum penalty for the offender in this murder and to accept no deals in dealing with her.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

L. Michelle Critchell
and
Douglas A. Critchell

More than 132,000 (recently corrected higher) motorcycle riders have died in traffic crashes since the enactment of the Highway Safety Act of 1966 and The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966. Be careful out there.

No, a 2 ton auto is a deadly weapon AT ALL TIMES. The fact that is was "being used incorrectly" just makes it more deadly. Just out of curiosity, are the good citizens of Wisconsin now going to DAMAND a 5 day waiting period on "assault automobiles?"

Tragedy.
Several years ago, in the People's Socialist Republic of Santa Monica, Russell Waller killed 10 people with his automobile and injured some 2 dozen more. Still waiting for the outcry over his fully mechanized "assault weapon!"

Maybe it is time NOT to hold rallys and events in States that have liberal DUI laws or do not support the MC community. Take the business elsewhere and let the politicians know why.
