Angry Almost bought a GS today

Everything was a go, pistol, cash, helmet, extra clips (lot of cash) 2nd pistol.
Serviced by someone I know and trust.
On the phone telling guy I'm on my way, he tells me there is a loan out on the bike and he does not have title in hand.
I need at least a copy of the title to check and make sure numbers match (long standing personal policy.) I don't care if it is in your name just so the number on the frame (engine case 69 and back) match the numbers on the paper.

Not sure about your state but here in California the banks no longer have the title, instead the state keeps custody of it and only surrenders the title after the vehicle is paid off. They call this process "paperless title".
If you can go with the owner of the bike to the bank that granted the loan, they can do the paperwork as they are the lien holder. Then you still need to go to the DMV for the title transfer. The main numbers to be concerned with are the VIN and engine.
It is not necessary for the PO to have the title in hand, as long as you can verify with the bank that the bike is paid off (using some or all of your money for that purpose).
I hope this helps. I sold my 99 and my 03 LTs that way and never had an issue. Of course this means that you cannot do the transaction on a weekend when the lending bank is closed.

Well, Rock, the main thing was that you were prepared to do business (two pistols and $$). Kind of a "dry" run.

Thing are different in Pennsyltucky,we are not a full out commie state yet- still socialist.
I have bought sold or traded at least 50 bikes. I know what to look for and how to read the numbers, know what a straight leg 6/9 vs curled.
Not gonna jump threw any hoops because someone don't have their stuff together, I was already willing to go a grand more because of who serviced the bike since new.
Just one of those days, where I have to remember when the outhouse tipped over . Started with a bad haircut experience. (guard on clippers broke half way into it. So now to fix it, I have a USMC 3rd phase high and tight)

Rock, if I'm able to have a Tech Session here again any time in the next millenium you're welcome on a GS, or anything else you ride in on.

A photo of that new haircut would make a nice avatar.

In Kalifornia we were full commie years ago (not that there is much difference from socialist)!
