Smile Final drive Milage

With all theses treads about these failures . Whats the highest milage out
there in LT land that anyone has gone without a failure . with the new style
bearing , or old style for that matter ?

I was very surprised that I could not find a survey on this; it may be buried deeper than I looked. As for me, no failure at 54K, original 19 ball bearing, which I replaced as a precaution when I needed to replace the taper bearings (they had not "failed," but they were beat up).

145,000 miles

2002 LT, old style bearing. Started making noise at 145,000 miles. As you might guess, BMW was not interested in any "courtesy" consideration, LOL. My extended warranty from Pinnacle covered the replacement and the tow.
I remember reading a post from someone else that did have more miles.

I think Joel (kdog) suggested a survey along those lines, as sort of a balance to the 'failed' survey running several years ago. I'll post the URL soon as I find it.

Edit: Click here for the start of the survey about non-failures of the rear drive bearing. I see it wuz actually suggested by Cowboy Bob Menton, with Joel picking up the starters flag. HTH.
