What's it worth?

Ok Boyzzz,

I went by my local dealer and drooled over a new k12gt. Thinking Iíve got to have it and will my wife notice that itís not my old bikeÖ Anyways, started to talk about price negotiations when I asked what they would give me for my k12ltc. The sales guy told me he would give me around 2k for it, thatís when the negotiations on the new bike stooped. He told me that I was about 3x's over on miles and that was all they would do for my bike....

So here's my bike, sure it's had problems anyone owning a BMW that says he hasnít had problems, I wouldn't trust... Iíve taken care of my problems as they came up, or it would not have been ridden as much as it has. It's a 2000 K1200LTC with 100K on the clock, those are my miles mostly running the twisties allover the place. Some scrapes here and there, some hanger rash. I have maintained the bike at the service intervals and any major work was done at the shop.

Overall the bike runs like it should and still looks good. So if I sell it out-right what should I ask for it?

Still Valuable

Hi,

A quick look at cylcletrader showed this to be the cheapest 1999-2001:

"1999 BMW K1200LT, many access, tank bag, chrome luggage, carrier, Bill Mayer lthr seats, upgraded Ohlins susp, j pegs, new tires, new windshield, moto lights, 169k mi, runs perfectly, $5,900 obo"

I would be amazed if you couldn't get $5-6K for you bike (assuming good running condition). The competition for old tourers are 90s Wings. No comparison to the LT.

Wish you were closer, I've had a few drooling over mine.

Sell it yourself--Too Risky for a dealer, they'll have to wholesale it IMNSHO.

While I do understand why the Dealer would only want to give you 2000 on trade, it certainly isn't enough. I would guess you could sell it fairly easily for 4000+. You could certainly part it out for more than the $2000 offered. There is a demand out there for rear drives, ABS units, wheels and tires etc. Tony (deputy) parted out his, and I don't think he had any trouble getting major items sold. You might ask him.

Joe,
Just give me a shout next time someone is looking for one, mine is bone stock, except for an on-board compressor and some running lights and I did my own custom seat 55k on it an still love it.

BTW, I'm heading out to Nags Head in July, so keep me posted.

Thanks!

Wellllll, I'm not too sure I'd like to see my bike go that way, that would be sad... But that's an option I'd not considered, I'll have to look into that.

Thanks JR

Well it is actully better that way.
Seeing someone on your old bike is like someone bringing your ex girlfriend to the dance.
Sale price wise at least $3500-$4000. and I'm a rock bottom price type of guy.

Tio-Rock,

If she's an ex, that it! As I like to say "No mas Chica!".

On the other hand, I don't feel that way when I sell one of by bikes. Yes a bit tough to see your old ride go, but at least they will have fun riding with out getting their balls busted. (I just had to go there)

Well, I start my asking at 55 and see what happens form there.

I'm supprised the offered that much to be honest. My RS had 12K on the clock and they offered me 5. Got 8 for it on ebay. When you can buy one with 10k on the clock (LT 02) for 9500, I would say you would have a hard time getting more than 4 out of one with 10x as much use.
If you have the space for two (I didn't), keep it, if you don't, dump it. jmho

Ghaison (Jason)
99 K1200RS Silver and Blue (Sold!)
2004 K1200LT FOR SALE!!!
Bluefield, VA
Sometimes you can get so fixated on the fact that you are right that you lose sight of the reality that it doesn't matter.

From dealers point of view.
Time they put a $500 service on it, mark it up $1500, they are at 4K, so they have to lowball it.

Actually, it always brings a big smile to my face....knowing that you rode her hard, broke her, and put her away wet!......
