Ducati + Harley = ?

Unlike when John Deere merges with Ferrari there's actual ink (or bytes) on the topic.

Not sure who'd benefit the most.

Not sure the 1098 would look good raked out in chrome with a 300mm wide tire.

Sometimes you can get so fixated on the fact that you are right that you lose sight of the reality that it doesn't matter.
-some guy named Ghaison circa 2002

Actually the rumor that Harley would buy Ducati has been floating around for a couple of years. Harley has huge free cash flow and other than raise dividends or buy back shares, they don't have alot of reinvestment opportunities. This would actually be a big win for Ducati which has struggled for years against the Japanese. A merger would give them the dollars to really develop world beating sportsbikes. Harley would get the performance products and cache in this market that Buell's have never been able to achieve, so it would appear that this could be a big win for both of them. Ducati's share price (DMH-N) has doubled in the last six months. Part of the reason for this is the market is expecting a takeover offer from someone.

Once back in the 70's HD ruled the light weight world with the 250+350 class Championships 3 years straight.
Then for some stupid reason they cut ties with Aermacchi. Then like welfare whores went crawling on their knees for "Da Gubment to save dem" please place tariff's on imports so we can compete.
Then to truly reward the faithful, they asked for the tariff's to be lifted and now have 70% + of their bikes make over seas.

A Buell design (mass-centralization, trick fuel-in-frame, yada yada) with a Duc motor instead of the boat anchor now employed would be pretty cool.

I also think it would be win-win. HD needs an infusion of younger riders to keep their growth. Their current trajectory is not going to cut it. They blew it with the V-rod and Buell is second pony to their core business which is more about marketing/branding than anything else.

I don't know about the name, BUT, how about a new tag line: "FINALLY the SHOW gets some GO!"

They could even get a H-D 10-98.....it will FINALLY go over 10 MPH in 98 FEET!
