A new "gotcha"

There are times I go out and meander small roads around the hill country of Tejas just to scour the soul, blow the cobwebs and generally dissipate the ides of life.

This morning while traversing an absotootly gorgeous and small, barely two lane road along the Cibolo River, I saw an 18 wheeler come around the corner down the road. I reckon this road see's very few 18 wheelers as his trailer pulled a very large branch off of a tree and sent it skittering, bopping and hopping down the road.

While it came nowhere's near to nailing my precious tightey whitey, it's another thang to put in the arsenal of coulda, woulda, shoulda.

I was behind an 18 wheeler that dropped a load of drywall in front of me a couple of months ago. Lucky the sheets landed flat and scattered across the road as I ended up driving over bouncing 4'x8' drywall sheets at about 70 mph. I would have hated my epitaph to read "Done in by a piece of gyproc"!

I was on I-45 north out of Houston and some dude in a pickup passed me doing 90ish and a 2X4 flew out of the bed. It was only about 3 feet long and it hit on one end spinning that sucker like a BMW propeller right toward me and my honey on the back. I raised my left arm and it brushed me as we passed each other.

Coulda, mighta, oughtta been a really bad day.

Glad you missed the dramatic part.

I think one of the worst one's I ever came across was when passing a carload of young ladies, one of them lifted her shirt and flashed her ta-ta's at me. It was bad, real bad. Imagine getting hit by a boat you can't see.

The horror of it.....especially when you realise that they really are "sinking" beneath her knees!

Flying Mr. Potato Heads too...

Becky and I were two-up around Alamosa, CO where they grow lots O' spuds. Two lane road, curving left. Open-box truck overloaded with future fries in the curve coming our way. Just before we meet, potatoes start bailing. It was like playing Asteroids...as potatoes whizzed by left and right. But I couldn't find the trigger for my laser gun. I later found out the LT does not have a laser gun. RATS!

Good thing...None of them hit us or the bike. But they missed our helmets by mere inches on both sides. I quickly flicked the bike to the right in a natural reaction...probably an inch at best...but didn't have any part in the potatoes missing us. Funny thing...because I made that tiny jog and she felt it...Becky gave me full credit for riding through the potato cloud untouched.

Ever see that Ron White routine? 90 year old lady asks him if he wants to see them, he hesitates and then, "yeah, sure, ok, ok, put them away".

Guys are such dogs, but we know what we like.

Now that's a good one! Imagine if it was eggs. I did come up on a scene in east Texas (after the fact) where a bunch of chicken crates had fallen off of a truck.

My father came home a little late one day, somewhat rattled. He nearly got hit by a boat on the freeway. Seems some guy had just bought his first boat, a brand new boat, and it was just sitting on the trailer, not tied down or nothin'. He took a curve a little fast, and the boat flew off the trailer and went cartwheeling down the freeway. My dad just barely missed it -- or it just barely missed him.

Sheesh.

Cool

My last excitement was topping a hill in Miss. and meeting a PT Cruiser at the top! I moved over to the whiteline and the PT had enough room to pass three wide, the PT was passing on a double yellow!!

I know I don't like going blind! Hell, my vision is already so blurry I can barely see daylight. One more "flash" of some knee-knockers and I'll be smelling a dog's ass for the rest of my life!

Sheesh.
Should be a misdemeanor for failing to properly secure load INCLUDING a one year, minimum, DL suspension. FELONY if someone is injured with a 3 year DL suspension. Ten year minimum is someone is killed!

Telle and I were driving back from a funeral earlier this week in the cage. As we were motoring along the highway, a tractor trailer in the lane to our left dropped about a four foot length of 1" angle iron on the road. The rear tires of the trailer hit it, and sent it spinning wildly right towards our windshield! It happened so fast I barely had time to swerve enough to my right. Missed the windshield, got the side of the car to the tune of $525 worth of damage. All I could think of was what that spinning piece of metal could have done to us had we been on the bike.
Maybe my just-departed friend was paying me back that favor he owed me....

I was leading a group of 300+ bikes across Kansas when the truck in front of me dropped a wooden pallet, in dirt bike fashion the elbows went up up and the throttle wide open went over the top. After stopping and changing my shorts my buddy approached and gave me my new road name "Airborne OD"
