Talking Then Came Bronson

EVERYTHING I EVER NEEDED TO KNOW ABOUT MOTORCYCLES I LEARNED FROM WATCHING THE TV SHOW "THEN CAME BRONSON"

1. Don't bother to custom paint your bike. Just add a decal to the side of the gas tank.

2. All cool bikes have a "Sissy Bar."

3. Don't waste money buying a Dual-Sport bike. Just add a "trials universal" rear tire to your current bike.

4. Always carry enough tools to completely rebuild your bike, on the spot.

5. No hill is too steep.

6. Gotta have Ray Bans.

7. Wear a Toboggan, and never have a "bad hair day".

8. Stay away from girls wearing Wedding Gowns.

9. A bedroll makes a cool windshield.

10. And the number one thing that I learned from "Then Came Bronson",

I AM THE MAN YOU WISH YOU WERE!

Is the actor that played him still alive? He was definitely a rebel without a cause. (or any acting skills to speak of)

If so, we should get him as a guest speaker at this year's CCR - a lot more fun than the suits from BMW.

They filmed part of one of the episodes (I never saw the finished product) between Montrose and Gunnison, Colorado on Highway 50 and I assisted with traffic control while he rode up and down the highway with the film crew close behind. I only recall that there was an old indian (native american, not motorcycle!) in one of the scenes. And it seems he had a dog with him...I was not a big fan of the series, don't think I ever watched one all the way through.

Just old, clutchless and clueless

I ACTUALLY REMEMBER THAT LINE!

He was doing some sort of menial labor - I think picking crops!

You have to admit he really did have a way with the sweeties - notice how tucked in she is on that dependable AMF Sportster!

Not that I watched the show that much, but the job was knocking the mortar off used bricks, he warned her not to break more than two, and when she refused he uttered that line about work. I think she ended up with a beef jerky sandwich for dinner. Actually, I guess I did watch that show a lot. Also, if you notice, the Sportster is shifting on the right - pre AMF.
I'm sorry, I love trivia.

That was cool

Man I loved that show. He and that Sportster were so cool. I guess I was 10 and had been riding mini's for about five years and that Sporster was the tits. For awhile there TNT was running reruns and I never missed it. I know most of you don't get it, but like the saying goes if I have to explain it...

Actually, that line came while he was cleaning bricks. Belinda Montgomery said she would not do that menial, physical work.

That night, he cooked eggs with something, and she waited for hers, without sucess!

Next day, she cleaned bricks, too!!

Parks does a lot of made-for-TV movies and usually plays a real bad-ass. Mostly he's some sort of ex-special forces type who has turned anti-social. Does a magnificent job, too!

One of the things that got used a lot in that series was what we called "The Bronson Rock" which was he used on the side of the road to fix pretty much anything that was broken, or so it seemed.

That "Bronson Rock" was a pretty catch phrase for many years around these parts.

BRICKS! I love it!!! I remember as an impressionable teen thinking that all I needed was a motorcycle, a girl and a job.. Come to think of it, that's all I still need.

What messed me up thinking it was an AMF was that logo on the tank - I could swear it was an AMF since they had a small triangle in their corporate logo - but of course they did not appear on Harley's until 1971. For a moment I thought it might be a Hodaka logo.... Stanger things have happened in Hollywierd.

That logo was of course Bronson's "All Seeing Eye" custom designed just for his series:

Excellent! I remember that issue, and as a 12 year old fan of both the show and the magazine at the time, I felt slighted by MAD. Even then I knew they were wrong, and I was already feeling the lure of the road on two wheels.

Actually you made my day. All this talk about Bronson got me motivated.

I've decided to take a 10 day back roads trip to Oregon to visit with my brother and nieces, and surprise my Mom on her 85th birthday May 22 - the same day as MINE!

I'm calling my trip "Then Came RonSon!"

Now I gotta go find my watch cap, but I'll wear it on top of my Arai...

Am I too young to be here?

I don't think I ever saw an episode of TCB when it first ran, I don't even remember watching it in reruns.

But I never missed CHiPs.

I think Erik Estrada had the first set of "grills" I ever saw.

What a whacked show - but I watched it too!

LOVED the music. Soft disco and MC's, don't get no better than that!

1969....in college, Honda CB350 in the driveway, 1958 Chevy Impala 2dr fire engine red w/black interior with a built 348 tri-power T-10 4sp with 4:11's and a mean Craig stero blasting "Light my Fire", those were the days! "Then Came Bronson" is on tonight and whoses house are we going to watch it at tonight was the question and then where we going riding after? I would love to have those days back and I guess it's true that "youth is wasted on the young". 38yrs later and a bunch of friends our going on a ten day trip to Torrey with a bunch from the ST board and we leaving on my b-day, only 58! I guess I will call this "Then came MatSon" better get Long Lonesom Highway cued up on my i-Pod.
