Thumbs up Joe's a Rollin' On

I heard from Joe tonight. He was just off the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi having dinner. The waitress was calling him names so he appears to have made himself at home. He's had a great ride so far, including dispatching most of Alabama at an impressive rate of travel (he says the Valentine One has paid for itself already ). He's looking forward to getting into Texas and seeing all you folks there for a few days. He hasn't forgotten about all us left-coasters, either; he'll be invading our fair land in about a week.

That's it for now. I figured some folks might like to have a quick update on our boy's travels.

Tony,

You better hope to hell he stays there tonight, or your door bell could be a real problem at 2:00 AM.

Thanks for posting David. This little podunk town I'm in currently (in Louisiana) ain't got no cell service for crap . . . but they gots broadband though! So far the Valentine ones has saved me once in KY, twice in TN, twice in GA, several times in AL, and once in Louisiana. Yea...I GUESS it's paid for itself. I do love riding in the south. These people FLY down here!!!

Hi Joe,

let me know when you think you will be heading through Nevada.
If you have the time, jump off the I-40 and go along route 66 in Arizona.
The road is old but very historic... head to Kingman > then over to the Hoover Dan (a must see) then into Las Vegas...

PM me or call 702-768-1660 and I can give you details.

Jeff

Route66 isn't a bad idea. You can pick it up in Seligman, which is about 75 miles past Flagstaff. It'll take you through an Indian reservation and into Kingman. It's an 82 mile desolate stretch of road with no services, so plan your gas accordingly. There's very little traffic on it, and the scenery is arguably a little better than I40. Although they're both beautiful routes.

Don't forget to look me up in Kingman. I'm curious what you decided about your tire situation. Las Vegas BMW is an option if you don't head down to Tuscon.

Joe - be careful with your radar detector on the reservations, as they are illegal and they will write you a big ticket AND confiscate it.

Speaking of firewater, I actually did get pulled over on the Indian reservation one morning in the car, with the wife and family. It was a sobriety checkpoint. I said to the cop, "do you really find any drunks at 11:00AM?" He said "Sir, this is an Indian reservation!" Sadly they do find a lot of drunks at that hour.

I guess they were state police. I thought it was interesting that they apparently had jurisdiction on the reservation. It's also possible they may have been right on the border of the reservation.

BTW, Joe if you get this before you get to Kingman....

I forgot to mention that the Laughlin River Run runs this Wednesday through Sunday, and is only 30 minutes outside of Kingman. I'm planning on hitting it over the weekend. Should be a hoot.

Cheers,

Was good to see Joe during his brief visit to Dallas. He helped work on SpineDr's LT, to which we added J-Pegs, HID high beam and MotoLight Caliper Lamps.

BeemerRiderBob stopped by for a while, and brave soul that he is, even let Joe ride his treasured R100 & side hack around the neighborhood.

KeithTXDallas came over after work, and he, Messenger13, SpineDr, and yours truly took a jaunt up to Marietta, OK to McGehee's Catfish Restaurant. The fish disappeared quite quickly and the plate kept magically refilling. We tried to get back to catch some ice cream at Carvel, but they were closed by the time we returned.

Back at the house, Joe and I put tools away and cleaned up a bit. Of course, Guinness Draught was involved. Looked at the clock, almost 0200.

Up early, we met Bruce for brekky at Pete's Cafe in Carrollton. Joe's instructions to the waitress -- "bring me food, I don't care what it is." The waitress called Joe some names at various intervals during our visit.

Back to the hose, where Joe packed up and loaded his gear onto his trusty GT, off to meet Deacon Channing ("CFell") at the Hard Eight for some Q. Between the incoming WX and not feeling so well, I bowed out. Good thing, too. Storms here were torrential, and the house three doors down from me got struck by lightning. Yikes!

I got a phone call that the Q was excellent, and that they made it safely back to Deacon Channing's home in Round Rock, just north of Austin.

Glad you stopped by, it was a lot of fun. Godspeed and safe travels, Joe, until out paths cross again.

Hmmm, sounds like Joe may have a theme for his ride. This is at least the 2nd occurrence of wait staff calling him names.

I have a large reserve of beer (Becks, Samuel Adams, and Guinness) and I did a Costco run last night so I am ready for the big guy!

Hey, I already have two very tall teen-aged boys who can eat their own weight in a day (or so it seems) so what's one more???

Huh... Did I just compare Joe and his very fast bike to a teen-ager? My mistake!

Gilles, please tip back an ice cold one for me and give my regards to Joe. It appears that I will be out of town when he makes your place.

Ted, by all means. I insisted on Joe not having a hard schedule, so he may be at my place at 2:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m., or anytime in between, and I am not sure what day yet. I figure he'll have more fun that way, and also I feel it is safer not to push it one way or the other.
I'll PM you as soon as I know. It would be fun for a few of us to get together and make Joe feel welcome.

I don't think that the mace would have stopped him!

Ride safely.

Y'all take of the messy13 whilst on the left coast. I know Gilles and Kathy will. Of course, the wife and I would like to visit Gilles and Kathy one day so I hope Joe doesn't spoil it for us! LOL

I think the plan has changed and I will feed Joe as many beers as it takes to put him asleep.
There is no way I will be seen in public with him after seeing all the pictures!!!
Oh wait... that's what Brett was saying about me!!!

At the time of this note, he's been on the road a little over 5 hours... we can only IMAGINE the kind of fun he's been able to get into...
