VIN decoder

Stumbled across a VIN decoder at:
http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/bmw-vin-decoder-set.html
which tells the build date of the bike from the last 7 digits of the VIN.
Thought there had to be an article or link on this in the FAQ/HOW, which there is, but that link doesn't appear to work anymore.
Found out my brand new Sept '05 purchase was an 04/2004 build date! (shock, horror!) Just how long do they leave these bikes sitting in some warehouse???
Still, I ain't complaining, I didn't pay the top dollar so I'm still happy

And it even shows a aerial view of the factory in Berlin and a locator where the Bike production line is. At least I think that's what it is showing me. That's different.

Yeah, forgot to mention it was in native BMW speak.... (Bablefish is our friend)
and I think it may only be good for up to '05 models (or 04 in my case...!).
