Arizona in March

I'l be attending a conference in Chandler finishing up on Thursday March 15th. I was thinking about a bike rental and heading north for a couple of days towards Monument Valley but climate searches show daytime temps in the 50's and there is always the possibility of a late winter storm on the way.

Anything interesting to the South?

Monument Valley can be either beautiful in March or downright horrific... you could see sunshine and 60 to 70F or a full out winter blizzard. Best left for the summer months.

If the weather is cooperating, the old route 666 (the Devil's highway) from Alpine to Safford is one of the BEST motorcycle roads in the WORLD, period. You'll be going from 9,000 ft. MSL to about 2000 ft. MSL.

There's also a cheap hotel in Safford with hot springs right next to your room to chase away the chills if you come in from the North.

Even though it looks short, allow at least half a day for the journey due to the 400 PLUS curves.

Damn, there won't be any RV's on the road in March, either.

COOL!
I did Tuscany in the off-season and there were no tour busses as well.

I believe I will be in Chandler that week as well, and I have my RT out there (I live in CT). Maybe we could meet up with Kdog for a ride?

There is an excellent campground next to the caverns run by the state parks, and a couple of hotels about 15 minutes away at I-10. Make sure you get there an hour before the ticket office opens early am to get in line unless you buy tickets in advance - they have very restricted ticket sales and cap the number they sell every day.

Kartchner is worth the trip alone - nothing like it in the world.

OK,OK I'LL DO IT!
I've reserved a R1200GS in Scottsdale from AZRIDE and will head south feeling the Arizona sunshine. No camping this trip so I'll find a bed nearby. Just need to ride and get out of this CWS (Cold Weather Syndrome). Over 500 schools were closed today in NE Ohio because of the temps. This morning it was -2 and the wind chill was -24 degrees. It's been a number of years since we have had this Global Warming phenomenon. Actually I rode the LT on Christmas Eve as well as New year's Day with balmy temps.

Oh well, will probably complain about the humidity when summer rolls around. Thanks for the great tip RONKMILLER!
