Victory Vision- Not impressed!

Victory had a big unveiling at the Intl. Bike show in NYC last week. I'm not impressed with the design. It may appeal to some but it did not meet with a lot of positive comments from those I spoke to.

Here's a shot I took. It truly reminds me of something I saw on the Jetsons cartoons when I was a kid.

if you are referring to the top box i believe a model is available without it. they show one with the top box removed at their website.

Hi, Hans - yup, they do have two versions of the Vision. A street version (sans top box/trunk) and a touring version (with).

That thang has Arlen Ness written all over it, doesn't it?

Not sure if I have a fever this morning, or too much breakfast - butt, I'll take one of the Touring versions. May wait to see if they can adapt a reverse gear!!!

Seriously, for me, I'd like to ride one for a day or so, and I'd park one in the garage if I survived the 750 mile demo trip!! Got lotsa time to think about it tho - release dates are in Fall of '07.

I remember the first time I saw the LT in a showroom I thought it was some space age thing and are those ram horns or handlebars. I have not seen one in person but I don't care for it. Years later and I have an LT and love it, so the Victory could become like a wart and grow on me!

Victory Branded Garmin GPS

You can't see it in the photo but Victory has a nicely integrated GPS with a Victory logo that looks suspiciously like a 26xx or 27xx.

Hey who knows, maybe the Vision design will grow on me!

I dunno, Hans. Got roundball and pointyball players in the millionaire category too; guess as long as it's all legit and not from ill-gotten gains (so to speak), I can live with it.

BTW - like the pic in your new sig group. Last year's trip???

Funny... I was out on another forum and I think the comment about the Vision was...

Do not know yet

Will have to see it in person and throw a leg over it and maybe even take one for a spin to see if it could grow on me.

If you listen to the introduction video on their site someone says the bike really has telepathy I want to see how that works.

Still thinks it looks like a ill legitimate offspring form an ultra glide and an LT.

I'm just curious what other bikes out there look like the Vision? I do see a couple of simularities to other bikes you know, two wheels, windshield etc. Some of you guys sound like the HD clones "There are only two types of riders, those who have a Harley and those who want one".

They really need to loose that "trunk", it really hurts the whole "flow" of the lines. And the big red V for the tail lights...its a bit too much. Maybe if they were 3" high individual V's for the lights it might not be too bad. I think they really went overboard on the futureistic look.

I just saw some pictures of it without the trunk...that helps it a bit.

I was thinking the same thing, when I was riding Kaw's and I first saw an LT I thought that was the strangest bike I had ever seen!

Now I own one and think it is a darn good lokking bike!

I checked it out on Victory's website. The bike has the front end of a honda st1300, the lines of k1200lt, and the engine of a harley. I personally like to see variety however, Victory will probaly price themselves out of the market asthey do with all of their bikes. Randy's Cycle down the road from me in Huntley is a Victory dealer and I stop in frequently to look n see. What strikes me most is these bikes are affordabel only if compared to an HD. Otherwise they still way overpriced having said that, I do like to see a choice amongst american brands. I will wait n see how they price it

I think you guys are in for a surprise when these hit the streets. My BMW is 8 years old and people still ask "what kind of bike is that?". Everyone will know what the Vision is within the first year. Many may not like it, but everyone will know.
One of the Big difference between HD and Victory is the quality of product. Victory has the highest ratings of any motorcycle overall while HD has the lowest of just about anyone out there. Atleast when you buy a Victory your buying a sound, solid bike.
I also saw a post about Victory going to KTM to help them design something. I'm sure everyone knows that Polaris, Victory's parent company own 25% of KTM so why wouldn't they use the resources to improve their product?
Guess I'm starting to see why the first thing the brother in law said when I told him I picked up an LT was "I didn't know you were a yuppie".

Yes, I will admit some dealers and even more owners are a bit snooty.

I disagree about the "engine of a harley". I don't own a Victory, and I may never own one, but their engine is a good engine. HD riders often ask "where's the pushrods?" when viewing a Victory, from what I hear, like they've never seen an overhead cam engine before! Style and beauty are kind of in the eye of the beholder, but my riding friends assure me that Victory builds a solid dependable product, and unlike most stock HD's, they aren't so lacking in power either.

As far a pricing is concerned, I think North American and European bikes are just bound to cost more than those built in the pacific rim. If you really want to buy on price, watch what happens in the next few years when the Korean and Chinese bikes start arriving in really large numbers.

I was really interested to see this bike after first hearing about it. It does look a bit too funky for me...hmmm...a bit funky...describes a few bikes in the BMW lineup

I credit them for having the stones to go a different direction. I would love to see a ton of new touring bikes launched. Even if I personally hated them all, it could do nothing but benefit me when the time comes for the successor to the LT

Competition is a great thing!

One funny line I read from the Honda board. Someone said that they took a nice motorcycle and "Runed" it

I agree with everything you've said more or less with this exception.

One thing the Victory motors are not is like a Harley. Not even remotely so unless you equate all VTwins to Harley.

Chain driven overhead cams with 4 valves per cylinder , 6quarts of oil cooling in the 6 speed crankcase . These motors develope power like Harley wishes they could and are literally bullet proof. I've beaten the piss out of mine for over 10,000 miles without a hint of problem (If anything it's broken in now and actually developing even better power.)

Mine hits 100ftlbs of torque at 1500 rpms and doesn't go below 100ftlbs again until about 5000rpms. All my buddies ride Harleys and even the modified ones I stomp all day long. Those motors just can't breath well enough.

A guy I know took a stock 100ci and had the head ported and polished opened up the intake and exhaust and installed a remapped ECU that allowed it to spin to 7000 rpms and his dyno sheet at the rear wheel was showing 134hp and still climbing when it hit the rev limiter. You'll never get a Harley motor to do that with natural aspiration.

One thing this Cartoonish looking Tourer will have is a great motor.

So the Victory motors have the engineering that H-D's don't, then?

Not sure if you're trying to be sarcastic here , but in a nutshell ... yes. With the exception of the Vrod motors.

The Victory motor is able to produce more power due to it's advanced engineering.

Harley motors (Vrod exempt) are more or less 40 year old technology.

The 'Vision' reminds me of some Arlen Ness customs I've seen in magazines. The touring model makes me wonder where Judge Dred is hanging out! Seriously though, I've never ridden a Victory motorcycle, so my opinions don't count anyway. Cheers, gotta go ride now...

It's an old joke. Scooters are like fat chicks. Fun to ride until you're friends see you on it...

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I really like it. I've only seen pics though, not in person...

No, not being sarcastic at all.

I continually struggle to find the attraction of H-D. All my buddies and work acquaintances ride Harley's. Basically, you have a lot or show (and noise) and no go! It would appear that there are similar products (like Victory) that have the same styling with far better engineering.

Now, if you're into Harley's as artwork and display them in your living room, well I understand!

I'm a minority here also (in more ways than one ) but I like it also. When I first saw drawings of it I thought that without the v-twin it could be the 2008 version of the BMWLT.

I'm a minority also. I'm one of the pink people.

Having seen both it and the New Connie in person at Cleveland show, , I'm more impressed with the Victory out of the two.
It is a bit ugly,(how does the LT look when I blew by at 120mph? ) and will have ground clearance issues while playing with Dragons.
The Connie on the other hand looked like a Ninja with glued on saddle bags and taller risers. ankle to knee to hip position unchanged, sit taller because of said risers.
I wont buy either, I would rather get one of the diesel military sleds and run it on bio-fuel just because I can.

This bike reminds me of a modern Lincoln Zepher fender with wheels. It looks very wide at the handle bars that might block vision for clearance purposes. I would like to see one in deep purple metal flake and a racoon tail on an antenna!
