GS1200 for K1200GT?

I’ve been kicking around the idea to post a trade on my local Craigslist. I have a 2008 R1200GS and I’ve been thinking about asking for a trade on a K1200GT or newer. My wife has been wanting to ride with me and she is height challenged so I thought that it would be good idea so we could travel together in comfort. I’m curious on your thoughts? Is that a fair trade? What should I be looking out for and avoiding? What is too much mileage? I’ve always had the R series and I would like to stick with BMW. The K series is unknown to me for maintenance and reliability. Thx for your time.

Re: GS1200 for K1200GT?

I traded a 2009 GS for a 2009 K1300GT and added 4,500 to the deal in 2014. It had 23 K on it and it included a 2 year extended warranty, which I used once for a TPMS sensor. It now has 34 K on it and nothing but tires and oil changes so far. Love the 160 horses and the seat is lower for the pillion but she prefers the LT anyway. Fun bike. If you get the GT with the transverse engine make sure the cam chain jump guide recall has been done, otherwise the engines are pretty bullet proof.

Re: GS1200 for K1200GT?

If you can swing it, try to find a 2009-2011 K1300GT. There were a ton of improvements both large and small that make it a much better bike than the 2006-2008 K1200GT. Also note that the 2006 K1200GT had power assisted brakes, but the 2007 and above don't.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
