Ted works as a salesman for A&S Cycles in Sacramento. Since the 27 bikes are for his county and reading this in his post:

My guess is A&S Cycles got the contract. Of course I've been known to be wrong.

and some lucky guys and gals are gonna get the chance to buy a retired RT-P. I still want one! BMW Cleveland has had one for about a year. I've drooled over it twice.

Still don't know what it is, but the idea of owning one of those is highly attractive to me.

The thought of wearing a white 1/2 helmet, leather jacket and freaking traffic out?

Thumbs up Excellent news

Glad to see all the LEOs riding Boxers. That way my GT will still be able to outrun them.

(Just keep them away from the Hayabusas!)

Kind of. But here in Ohio -- where the State Patrol have reincarnated their motor unit with HDs -- I'd have to get an Electra Glide, not an RT-P.

I like the RT-Ps banks of LED lights, siren, and especially that horn. Awesome. But hey, if traffic wants to move out of my way if I was on one of those, that's OK.

How'd that old saying go? You can outrun the squad car, but you can't outrun the Motorola?

Hurt your feelings?

I am sorry, I thought you admitted to the smokey burn out. I thought you volunteered to clean it up.

Hey, I meet interesting people places too. Did the VP escort two weeks ago where he went hunting in Georgia.

Apology excepted. Thank you.

Enjoy the new bike. You guys are lucky to be able to ride Beemers, instead of Harleys like they do in Cleveland.

RTP's

I thought LE were opting for the Honda ST1300's? I saw one decked out with all of the LE equipment. Did Honda lose the bid? Don't get me wrong. I am a Beemer guy all the way.....just wondering if the rumor I heard was incorrect.

There are VERY few agecies going with the Honda. There are hundreds of police BMW's in my area here. Only one small town in the foothills bought one Honda.
The ST1300P isn't really supported by corporate Honda with specifc police package parts so it's much harder for the dealerships to build them.

I can order every single part I need to build a police motor from BMWNA. Very easy builds. This also means that the bikes I build here in CA will be virtually the same and the ones John will get in FL.

Besides...the RT is a MUCH better bike

Like Ted stated, with Honda you have to go outside of Honda. BMW has a contract with Code 3 which makes the lights and siren for BMW, which makes it easy for our fleet to pick. My fleet department does not want to mess with the lights and siren. Our Honda dealer I believe just gave up trying to get prices for the ligths etc.......... You can still get a police motorcycle with Honda, you just have to find the lights or have the dealer find them, or find a motor cop that is Honda crazy.

Went to the dealer to pick up some gloves, and in the parking lot were, and started counting, 9 large motorcycle boxes. Yupp, our RTPs are in, 6 days. Feel a kid at x-mas day.
