Anyone Know About Scooter Inspections??

I have been test riding a honda Silverwing (Scooter) for a couple of days and today I noticed that it does not have a state inpection sticker on it. As I looked it over, I can't see an old one, or even a place where one has ever been applied. I was wondering, does anyone know if scooters must be inspected just the same as motorcycles, or are they exempt???? I live in North Carolina, USA.

Greetings Jack:

Rode a Bergman 650 for several years. Loved it. Wondering why I sold it now.

Call your local officer of the highway patrol/state police. They should be able to tell you what you need to do (if anything) and refer you to a place that will do it.

Jack,

My 03 LT owned by a pastor in greenville NC has no insp. sticker, nor evidence of one. I'm guessing it should have been inspected at intial purchase. Not sure, but with size of Sivlerwing, I would expect it falls into "motorcycle" category as far as licensing, inspections, etc. The Silverwing, being a 650cc (?) is not going to be same classification as a "likker cycle" scooter.

Is it a new dealer bike? May not have one yet?

If it's a new dealer bike, it may not have been inspected. They don't do that usually until someone buys it so it's got a current inspection sticker on it. I used to "borrow" new Jeeps a lot, and found the same thing.

But yes, they do have to be inspected, at least in Virginia. Oddly enough, a couple of motorcycle shops I tried didn't do inspections.

I finally got mine inspected at a Tuffy muffler shop.

BTW. Before I got my LT, I had a Yamaha Majesty scooter. It was great. I never had any problems with it, unless you count wrecking it once. I think that was the loose nut behind the handlebars though, not the bike.

The only reason I got rid of it was I just wanted a bigger bike.
