Triumph Problems?

So Triumph was a no-show at the NYC Show. I asked a local MC dealer what was going on. The general comment was Triumph was in disarray. Does anyone have any details? Are they having sales problems, manufacturing problems, defect problems, other?

Design-wise I think they are doing some interesting stuff. I'm curious if anyone has similar comments.

Re: Triumph Problems?

I asked my friend Vince Moffa who is a manager at Triumph Philadelphia, he said the following:

They have chosen not to do the IMS shows the last two years, instead they have been doing the traveling launch tours in all the major cities. We hosted the first in Jan and did the second last week. They were very successful but I'm not sure if I agree with their strategy as these tours cater to only 200-300 of our core compared to maybe 30000 at a show.

Re: Triumph Problems?

I read on the Triumph Rat pack forum that the Trophy is not going to be produced anymore. That checks out as I went on a local Triumph dealers website and the Trophy is not listed. My guess is their overall sales are down and they are forced to cut some marketing expenses. Who really knows as Triumph is very tight lipped even to their dealers.

Re: Triumph Problems?

I have a buddy in Iowa that is looking at buying a '17 T100 in Dubuque and selling his Bonneville. They're nice bikes and have had excellent write-ups.

The bonneville lines are doing great. The Tiger 800 models sell well also. The big Tigers (1200) not so well. The Trophy, and thunderbirds will not be back for 2017. Nor will the Rocket 3 Touring, just the standard model.

Re: Triumph Problems?

I hope they find solid footing for their bikes. I've had a couple of modern Triumph's and appreciate what they bring to the market.

I wish Triumph well. When I first started riding in the mid-'60s, Bonnevilles were the dream bike to own. Couldn't afford one then.

If I had the room, I'd consider the T120 seriously for a second bike.

Re: Triumph Problems?

My understanding is that the Trophy won't be offered in the USA, but is still to be offered in the UK and Europe.
I think the sale's figure's vary by area. For example the big explorer did well here as did the 800. The Trophy and bigger triumphs not so much. The smaller bikes did great with the naked bike crowd.
Pricing was right so it's hard to say why triumph struggle's in the USA.
