In Training for Distance Riding Again

Took a little trip this weekend 303 miles out and then 335 back with an overnight stay. I took Jean to Paris (TN) for lunch and showed her the Eiffle Tower. Then it was on to Cape Girardeau, MO for the overnight and dinner at a Bob Evans, only that Bob Evans has been closed and torn down - Bummer. We had a great ride and found some new back roads to ride. On the way back the LT crossed a major milestone - it hit 100,000 miles! All and all it was the first long trip since CCR last year and my Decemeber back surgery. Getting stronger every day and just need to build up my stamina a bit as we were both pooped at the end of each day.

Re: In Training for Distance Riding Again

I've been to Paris TN once. It was in 1972 when I rode a Kawasaki H2 from Murray KY to Paris to buy beer late one night. Murray was a dry county. I remember riding back with a 12 pak strapped on the back on hwy. 641 with my chin between the speedo & tach & my legs stretched over the rear turn signals running wide open throttle for many many miles. I had been drinking beer all day & should have never made that beer run. That thought still puts a big grin on my face.

John,
Do you run your LT with a backrest? I noticed a big difference in distance with less fatigue with mine.

I have had a Russel Day long and when I learned how to adjust my BakUp back rest during a CCR Vermont scouting trip, I can (or at least used to) ride day after day after day. I am gradually getting back into it again.

Re: In Training for Distance Riding Again

Let me know when you are coming out to house hunt. I am semi-retiring in June, moving to 24 hours a week and see how that supports my motorcycle trips. If it doesn't I'll just move to 0 hours.

I have been in the big Eiffel, but they don't let you climb the little one. Hope your eye is getting better.

I think we are riding again on the 11th in search of an open Bob Evans in Bowling Green! It's only 165 miles away, nice day trip.
