Quick Disconnects

I read this on a UK based mailing list the other day:

'In the US a safety recall has just been announced for the plastic
quick connects that Aprilia use to connect fuel hosing to tank[i]. I
wonder how long before Aprilia UK to do the same?

Anyhow, I was well bored one afternoon earlier in the week so I phoned
VOSA. They know nothing about it but after a little conversation
decided to go off & "ask a few questions". Cool

[i] the same ones BMW are fitting to their bikes and that at least one
BMW forum has squawked about leaking.'

Do not know how to check the validity of same.

The same recall was issued a couple years back for Triumph bikes, too.
I just bought my own brass replacements and said goodbye to the junky plastic units.

Yepper! My SO and I were out for a spin on our Daytona over the summer (it was about 105 F outside so I didn't think we really needed the wind protection of the LT if you know what I mean) and when we came to a stop I smelled gas. I thought the tank was venting into my helmet since it was so hot out and the bike had just come out of the garage where it was cooler. When we stopped at the restaurant, I noticed fuel running down the side of the bike ONTO the exhaust... My SO (who actually is very intelligent, but knows nothing about mechanical things) tells me "yeah, I felt something wet on my pantleg, but since you just washed the bike, figured it was water"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't even believe we didn't catch on fire, the fuel was right on the exhaust coming out in a fine mist, and on the Daytona, the exhaust periodically shoots out a flame or two.

Talked to the dealer and he says "oh yeah, there was a recall, weren't you notified?"

Yeah, I choose to ignore it as I like my woman well-done!

Also, had the same quick connect fail earlier this summer on the LT as well.
I have my lawyer on speed dial now! LOL!
