Re: Lane splitting gone bad

Plenty of time to stop, target fixation or bad judgment about the gap, or both? Also not anticipating a sudden traffic stoppage. Needs to get a better scriptwriter too.

Re: Lane splitting gone bad

30 mph takes 45 feet to stop. 60 mph takes 180 feet. You know... energy equals mass times velocity squared. So at 60 mph you need to be looking about 400 feet in front of you to be safe. Recognition + reaction + braking. Hard to tell the difference between regular and slow at that speed. Look at his distance when he recognizes the threat.

Re: Lane splitting gone bad

Smartass thought he was slick. I'm sure he was expecting the semi on the left to be passing the one on the right and he was going to follow the left one and zip in front of the one on the right. I could see it was looking to be a bad decision way before he go to that black car. Or maybe he just got fixated on passing the black car without looking further ahead.
