San Diego Police BMWs article.

Pretty nice write-up on San Diego's transition to BMW.

Thanks for the article, David.

That is a nice write up. I wonder why "some the officers preferred the Kawasaki's".

That was one of the largerst orders for bikes we ever got, out side of the CHP contract. They are looking at getting some new 1200RTP's now.

Ted:

Is there any update on the CHP's decision between BMW and HD?

On one web group I was reading there was a post about some blow-up over conflict of interest with an A&S employee that had put the BMW contract in jeopardy.

I'm sure they don't miss that 3.5 gallon tank.

The CHP contract has not be awarded to anyone yet. There was no conflict with anyone that worked at A&S.

Could it be bad riding habits that really show up with the RT-Ps?

But I read it on the Internet! The person's Uncle's Pool Boy's Cousin's Friend said so!

Hope logic prevails. I imagine there are a few hundred CHP motor officers who hope so also.

In the city where I lived before retiring BMW RTs were tried by the lead m/c officer. His comment was they had too much power and the officers would get into trouble. Other m/c officers, but not all, said they were not as comfortable as the old Kawasaki (harder to pose on, really, and the shifter scuffed their boot's shine)....
It was comments and attitudes like this that the city fathers used to base decisions on what units to buy along with cost.

I have ridden all three. Kawi's for 3 years, HD for 5 and BMW now 4 ++ years. I feel and maybe it is my body, the RTP to be the most effective tool for police motorcycle. It was "made" for police work. It is the most comfortable out of three. Can not say it has been the most reliable, as I had to call a tow truck twice. We are in the bidding process right know for a 10 year contract. I am on the committee that will decide. I will post once the process is over.
