Ari’s winter farkle projects part 6 (Gerbing controllers for pillion)

I decided that I’d better put these stories under the right topic in order not to “steal the show” on the main board…

Since I changed my one-channel Heat-Troller to a dual one I had to do the same for mommy as well. Enough of rationalization…

So, the perfect place for the dual controllers + leds is the left side trunk panel which already has the 12 V outlet. (Not that I would used this outlet for my purposes…)
Anyway as I already had one hole in that panel which I made for an Autocom switch two years ago (and the hole remained when I changed to Baehr), so I just needed to drill another one. Plus two small holes for the leds. Same problem as with my front controller leds: The plastic is too thick for the length of the leds so again Dremel was needed to grind off some material from the backside.

This time cutting the two controller wires was necessary in order to get them on the right side of the rubber grommet. Maybe somebody could stretch the grommet enough to get the controllers slip through but did not even try. At the same time there is plenty of excess length in those wires so they can be trimmed to correct length.

And whatever you fix in the trunk, bear in mind that the trunk is a removable unit. In this case the connector to be opened is the main power feed to the Heat-Troller control unit. So if I lift the trunk off the whole Heat-Troller setup follows.

I hope the pictures are clearer this time and they show the principle of this process as well location of the control box and other stuff.

To be continued...

You're KILLING me, Ari! Would you consider moving to Seattle and being my "garage slave" for a few months?! Our guest room is right next to the garage, so you could run out there all hours of the day or night, and all your meals will be free! (Just be sure to bring all your tools!)

Hi Bruce,

sorry no intention to KILL anybody... (Sometimes the English language is a bit overkill.)

Thanks for your offer but I'm already booked as "house slave" by my dear wife. If you will be at CCR maybe I can show you some of the farkles and you can easily do them by yourself.

Regards

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

<ROTFLMAO!> I'll be at CCR, and very much look forward to getting a look at your farkles (I wonder what a non-biker would make of that statement! ). However, you obviously have no idea how inept I am at mechanical projects. My greatest mechanical accomplishment to date was installing a set of Hyperlites, and that took hours! So the idea that I could "easily" do the stuff you're doing is the most absurdand hilarious thing I've heard in ages!

BTW, you're English is astonishingly good, but when I said "you're killing me" (which my assistant says to me on almost a daily basis), it was akin to saying "you're driving me crazy." The point is that all these farkle projects of yours, which I know I have no hope of replicating (or even paying my dealer to replicate!) are just filling me with hopelessly unrequited "farkle lust!"

Come to a local tech session, Bruce. We've got one scheduled in Kent on April 29th, and one in Chatteroy on May 6th. I'm sure we can have some good fun with your LT.

I'm going to have to do that, even if only to watch! I bought the Paul Sayegh maintenance DVD set for the LT just because I thought it was really interesting to watch him tear into the bike's innards. (Unfortunately, I loaned them to a fellow LTer who moved away and never returned them. ) As for becoming any sort of "mechanic" myself, I don't see that happening anytime soon, but I do enjoy watching those of you who ARE!
