Where do I start looking?

Eight weeks ago, I put a new Westco AGM battery in the bike but then couldn't ride since then. Thought I had it on the battery minder which was showing green.

Went to start it up yesterday and the battery was deader than the proverbial doornail. Plugged in the battery minder, got the charging light, let it sit for five hours, only to find the red "problem" light now showing on the minder.

Now to backtrack: when I installed the battery, I first connected the red leads to the positive post. But when I connected the ground, there was a small arcing spark, something I'd never noted in any other battery install.

I suspect that there's an open circuit or short someplace. I'm going to remove the battery and put it directly on the minder and see what happens there. But then what should I go looking for?

Re: Where do I start looking?

Maybe you've turned the key too far beyond off and turned on the parking lights ?

That's usually the path to a dead battery..

Small spark no biggie....The LT does have a small parasitic draw...

As long as the starter isn't trying to turn when you hook up the battery.. You should be ok.

Charge that sucker up and then try to start her...If she won't start maybe your new battery is bad... It does happen...

Re: Where do I start looking?

Thanks, John

I pulled the battery out and it won't take a charge at all. The battery minder shows green (charged);

Voltmeter shows maybe 5v at the poles.

This would have to happen on a holiday weekend!
