Smile Very good battery price..$41.68!!!

If you are willing to use a Universal Battery you will not find a better price. The battery fits perfect and is a sealed battery. I am not sure of their shipping cost because I purchased local. With 22ah the UB12220 has plenty of starting power. Battery has held up well without being on a trickle charger over the past 8 months. Always has strong cranking power.

I bought that battery a few months ago. Great price! It's too soon to tell but I have no complaints so far.

Re: Very good battery price..$41.68!!!

I bought that battery last year as a replacement for the Westco that came with my bike when I bought it (used) in 2003. I never seem to get around to putting the battery on a tender over the off-season, and always have to charge it come spring time. Bad for the battery, I know. But the Westco survived until last year, when it just didn't want to turn the engine over well, even after a full day of riding.

Per my standard MO, I let the new Universal sit in the bike all winter. I was not at all surprised to find it dead this spring. The difference is that this battery truly died, and fully resisted all attempts at resuccitation.

I'm sure it will do better than one season with proper maintenance, but unless I just got a "bad" one, it wasn't as good as the Westco

YMMV.

The old saying You Get What You Pay For. A friend of mine on our way to Daytona from Baton Rouge, had bought an after market cheap battery only 4 months old went dead in rush hour traffic in Jacksonville six lane interstate.Seems one of the cells cracked and shorted out.Five hours later with a Yausa $218.00 at a local shop we were back on the road.

Not saying it could happen to a good battery but, you never know.

Another alternative might be an AGM battery from McMaster-Carr. I noted that some used at work in the ultra-cold freezers looked similar to the type used in our cycles. The posts look a bit thinner. See p/n 7448K76 for $46.58 (18 AH, 876 mA) or p/n 7448K51 for $61.14 (18AH, 900 mA). The latter is shown here in picture side by side with the Westco that I had recently purchased. Prices do not include shipping. McMaster ships fast, usually overnight delivery, at minimal expense.

I've had this same battery in my 05" for almost three years. I figured that I would give it a shot before shelling out the big bucks for the OEM BMW gel battery. My LT starts flawlessly, even if I've neglected to put on the battery tender or been listening to the radio while performing service on the bike. It appears to be unphased by all the accessories, GPS, Radar detector and aux lighting and starts with no problems. To date, it has exhibited no signs of slowing down. I'd give it 5 stars *****.

I really think the Hawker Odyssey PC680 is the best deal. You could easily get over 5 years from it, has a very low self discharge rate, is rated for 400 deep discharge cycles.

$50 something with shipping, against $134 shipped. But it does have a 2 year replacement warranty.

The PowerSonic battery on the right is NOT a good cranking battery, it is made for reserve capacity for UPS systems/emergency lighting systems. Like RRRider said, the blade (metal-thin) is just that, a very thin blade and not made for cranking.

I am not sure about the Wesco battery on the left (would have to see who the manufacturer is) but the post is a lot beefier and as long as it is an AGM and has similar CCA ratings/reserve capacity as the Ody PC680, it MAY be worth buying. Personnaly I like the female "post" on the PC680 as it is a better way of making a good connection than the nut and bolt style.
