Question Now What The Hell Do I Do?

So I ordered the Centech fuse block. Easy enough to install as far as that goes. Now I want to power my Valentine, GPS (Tom Tom) and iPhone. Do I just snip thecigar lighter plug off of the car accessory charger, strip the wires and run those wires to the Centech? How do I tell + and - ? Thanks.

Re: Now What The Hell Do I Do?

First I would figure out if the cigar lighter plug is just a pass through of 12V and it does not contain any poer conditioning. I know that was not much help. Best to have a friend with a meter check them out before you go whacking the end off. The one for my xm radio only fed 6 volts to the radio out the back of the cigar plug so I wired up a recepticle and plugged it into that.

Re: Now What The Hell Do I Do?

I fried my GPS by cutting the end off and wiring it directly. Now I have a cig. adapter under the rear box and plugged the original harness into that. Not wanting to replace it AGAIN! thier is most likely a resister of some kind.

Re: Now What The Hell Do I Do?

A "quick way" to wire things in correct polarity.. +/-

- Cut off the "lighter plug", leaving about 3-4 inches of wire sticking out of the plug.
- Strip the ends of the remaining wire about 1/2 inch.
- Connect your "voltmeter" probes to the remaining stripped wires and plug in the "lighter plug". (be sure not to let the exposed remaining wires or meter probes touch).
- If the meter shows "positive" voltage, then the red probe is connected to the positive (+) and the black probe is connected to the negative(-)

Now, with this knowledge, check the remaining wires for any variance such as a molded line (usually white) on one of the leads... now you know which is which for that device.

Re: Now What The Hell Do I Do?

Has anyone ever disconected the R1200 Rt powelet stock outlets from the Canbus system and rewired them to a fuse block such as the Centech?
