New Battery and charger

Hello folks,

I finally need to replace my original Gel Battery on my 2003 LT. I think I'm going with the Panasonic LC-X1220P. Any known issues with this? Also, can I use my BMW battery tender that used for the OEM Gel battery?

I will also look at that battery when I replace the Odyssey battery. I believe I read where it has more cranking power. The AGM Odyssey is very dependable, but in cold climates I have been fearful that it wouldn't crank.

I wouldn't worry about that. I had mine out on a road trip in January where the temps were below freezing every morning and the bike cranked every time.

Re: New Battery and charger

OK so the batteries are good but can I still utilize my BMW GEL battery tender to charge these?

Re: New Battery and charger

I believe that you can use a gell charger to charge a AGM battery, but you cannot us a standard charger to charge a gell battery. BTW, I'm moving this to the Battery forum.

You CANNOT use a gel charger on an AGM battery, the AGM battery has more of a like charging curve of a flooded battery.

The Gel charger will not charge the AGM or Flooded battery to it's full voltage of 14.4-14.6 vdc (on charge voltage), the gel is designed for a 13.7-13.9 vdc, no more.

Unless your charger has the capability to charge flooded, Gel or AGM batteries, you will need a charger for AGM/Flooded.
