Odyssey PC680MJ battery

Installed an Odyssey PC680MJ battery in the '07 K12GT yesterday. Engine definitely cranks faster than with the original gel cell battery.

There's been some discussion recently on this list about the metal jacketed version of the PC680 battery. Apparently, the purpose of the metal jacket is to enable the battery to operate in a higher temperature environment. Since the battery in the GT sits atop the engine, the metal jacket was suggested as a good idea.

Well, the metal jacket only covers the four lateral sides of the battery - the top of the battery, and the bottom, are exposed to ambient temperatures. With the plastic bottom of the battery exposed to engine heat, I'm not sure that the metal jacket does much good in this case. Perhaps I should have saved a few $$ and bought the non-jacketed version.

Re: Odyssey PC680MJ battery

The folks at West Coast Battery told me they suggest the MJ only for big, honking V-Twins that pump a lot of heat.
