Electrical trouble shooting

I'm attempting to trouble shoot a electrical trouble. A couple of weeks ago I put on the charger (battery a little weak). I allowed it to charge over night, cranked up the bike. I got the juices flowing. Now, heres the question: last night I went to start the bike and nothing. I mean NOTHING. No lights on the dash, nothing. It appears I'm getting no juice from the battery. The battery is new (less than a year) so I'm looking for some areas to check. Any help in this would be very thankful on my part. Tk's in advance. MK

Re: Electrical trouble shooting

What year is your LT? It could be any of the following:

Bad battery (yes 1 year old batteries go bad).
Put key past off position and the parking lights were lit.
Stuck rear brake relay.
Bad radio (mostly on earlier models).
Intercom system.
abs relay stuck.
Any accessories that you have "hot" wired.
IPOD interface dice unit.

Good luck!

Re: Electrical trouble shooting

Gee...sounds like what happened to mine last winter. Flat tire early January. Combination of icy mornings and lack of funds for tire caused the LT to sit for 2 months. Battery had enough to light lights, but not turn starter. Hit it with the battery tender enough to start the bike. Next day, totally flat battery. Tender showed 'overload', meaning more than 1 amp being drawn. Tried to use another battery to jump start the bike--starter wouldn't go. Seems my anti-theft device had failed, drawing way too much current, and ran the battery flat. With the jump-start battery the 15A fuse F3 blew.

The anti-theft device falls into the 'hot wired' category that Mike mentioned--something that is powered at all times, even with the key out.

Re: Electrical trouble shooting

Glad to hear you found the problem....what was it? There are so many places where a problem could be....having ideas where to check might help someone in the future
