DOA battery... that doesn't sound right... yes.. you "can" jumpstart.. be VERY careful hooking up cables... let charge for a while.... say a minute or so then crank.

Or, just bite the bullet and replace the battery.. it shouldn't have failed if not ridden for a week or two... would be a shame to get out somewhere and have it croak on you again.

Remember, do not leave it connected to car for long.. too high a charge rate from the car may damage battery.

Now, once you turn the key to "run", open and close the throttle completely 3 times in about 5 seconds... then turn key off and back on and start bike. This helps set the Throttle Position Sensor to the Electronics...

Or, just ride it.. and it will "figure it out" in a few miles..

Re: Can I jumpstart the LT? Reset anything? After shipping!

Thanks for information

So the best way would actually be to remove the battery, then charge it at home for 24 hours?

The truck driver said that there was some lights on it when he picked it up, but the ignition was on so it may just have been drained.

And it have been a month at sea and I guess the USA custom say battery should be disconnected and fuel drained before shipping!

What Amphere can I use on this gel battery? 12amp? Would 12 Amp be better or worce?

PS! This is my forst LT and I think I will be asking all kinds of stupid questions from now on and some time, hopefully there is some not to dumn questions there swell

I would replace the battery.... period. After being left "on" for that amount of time it just makes good and prudent sense.

Take the "old" battery and charge it.. might work fine for a "backup" in case you need one in short order.

You can charge the battery in the bike... but, I suspect you are anxious to ride...

Also, depending upon the battery (everyone is unique), you may not get the "life" out of this one that you should expect... nothing ruins a ride like hitting the starter and getting silence.... not to mention being STUCK somewhere...

Re: Can I jumpstart the LT? Reset anything? After shipping!

How about battery, gel battery. Can I use one with 12 amp? Would that be better or bad for the bike?

Is it normal 12 v Motorcycle battery?
Do you know the size of it?

hehe We have a K&A kind a store here that actualy give out better stuff then the normal original, and a gel battery for motorcycles cost $ 46.-
And it can be charged by a lead charger for same price.

The normal synthetic oil at that store is actualy Mobile 1 and they sell that at 1/3 of the price of Mobile 1 brand oil!!

Can I use mobile 1 on the bike?

Thanks again,

I believe Gel batteries require a special charger but that charge can be used on regular batteries also.

What I suspect happened is that the key was not in the "Lock" position during shipping and the battery got drained by some accessories.

yeah, Gilles..could be... so, the previous owner may have had the battery in a state of "discharge" to begin with..

In the previous note he mentions the guy who picked up the bike by truck noticed some lights on...

Either way, the battery has been severely discharged, it sounds like..

Paalao-----
I would NOT charge at the 12 AMP you suggest... Gel/AGM batteries should use the Gel/AGM Charger.

Re: Can I jumpstart the LT? Reset anything? After shipping!

Re the battery, I found another one with 19 apms and I think I read somewhere that the origianl LT batery is not that good.
I also like the idea of maintenance free battery This 19 amps gel battery sells for 125 dollars.

The bike looks really good, but there is a little paint of on the front tire guard, iritating becouse it is very visible so I got to get some impala brown paint to clean it up. Very nice color btw

One of the mirrors was missing aswell, but that one I found in the trunk I am happy to say.

And when I bought it I got it without the garmin gps (USA maps I dont need) and the dealer also removed the antenna on the right side!!! So now the mount for the antenna is sticking out empty... guess I will try to find another antenna to stick in there.

Does the older garmin wires work on the Zumo?

Do you know if the CD player plays MP3? (Thinking about removing the casettdeck in the side trunk)

Also I hope the headlight have the E mark on it so that I dont have to change it.

I have also a date with the traffic department for registration on the 31`th but wont get the lisence plate before I pay the 10 000 dollar import fee on it...the VAT I already paid...25%

hehe you guys in the USA are getting the bikes CHEAP! And gasoline wow how cheap!

This is not an issue. Cars charge at the same voltage as the LT, so hooking the battery to a running auto will not damage it. The alternator on the LT is actually a higher amperage unit than many cars, and all of them charge at the same voltage, 13.6-14.0 volts, normally 13.7-13.9 volts. It is voltage that controls the charge rate, the resulting amperage is the just the result of the combination of the battery's charge condition and the supplied charging voltage.

Some off vehicle chargers monitor the battery's condition and adjust the voltage/frequency to optimize chargine, but vehicle alternator systems do not. They just put out a fixed voltage, and the condition of the battery determines the charge "rate".

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work...I want to achieve it through not dying.
