New Metzeler ME888 rear inquiry

For information, I placed a query today with Metzeler Australia about the new ME888 for our LT's. Awaiting a response, I'll post the content as soon as I hear something. I'm currently also looking for a new BS BT020 for the rear but the rep has (apparently) told the re-seller they are scarce in Oz at present. Frustrating.

Re: New Metzeler ME888 rear inquiry

This was from Metzler NA so most likely you should see it sometime spring to summer in OZ.

Update from Metzler:
The new ME888 will be 79V rated same as ME880.*Quote:To meet the speed and load index needs of a specific application like this motorcycle Metzeler would never offer anything less than the OE tire. So this new ME888 is 160/70B17 TL 79V Rein. And you should note the current tire is readily available and is in stock at the Metzeler distributor warehouses across the US.

NA Metzeler M/C Tires Consumer Affairs

Emailed Metzeler NA about the website not showing the ME880 any longer and the availability of the ME888 for our K1200Lt. Below was their response. Have another question into them on time frame for the release date.

Hello,
The new ME888 160/70B17 will be brought in later in the year to replace the ME880. The ME880 front will remain for the present time and can be matched with the new ME888 rear. Please see your favorite dealer to purchase.*

Thanks for the e-mail.*NA Metzeler M/C Tires Consumer Affairs
UPDATE:
Hello,
The latest data we have is sometime between May to July.
Thanks again,

Re: New Metzeler ME888 rear inquiry

What is the difference between the 880 & 888 ?? I like the 880 front not the rear.

Supposed to have longer tread life and improved wet grip traction.

wet grip is what i need, dropped the bike twice with the 880, so i went with stones on the back.

Re: New Metzeler ME888 rear inquiry

Quick survey - hads up anyone who is prepared to ride in the wet to a point where they drop the bike, twice, then remedy that problem by changing to a different tyre ? Am I missing something here ? Race bike with race (wet) tyres maybe, but for me and my LT - vertical in the wet. All flack accepted.

Re: New Metzeler ME888 rear inquiry

Well, not even a hint of a reply from the Metzeler Australia website. How about all Ozzie forum members go to the website and post the same inquiry re the new ME888 rears ? My guess is they will want to play the game of selling off any ME880's which happen to be in stock in the country. Only a small market down under for these tyres though I guess.

Re: New Metzeler ME888 rear inquiry

hmmm, based on other forum reports I was of the mind installing a Bridgestone rear for a change when I wear out one of the 2 x rear 880 tyres I have at present (both on rims). So it'll be a while for me to worry about it.
When I bought the last new rear metz I think they quoted the BT as around $40-$60 cheaper...

Not all of us have the luxury of a perfectly straight road with zero curves to ride on when it's rainy, I guess.

Re: New Metzeler ME888 rear inquiry

Go to Google Maps, type in TASMANIA the zoom in, I await your response. Never, ever, compare Tasmanian roads to those on our great sunburnt brown land to the north. They too have excellent curves and plenty of them, but they have straights 140 Km long in the state that is the second largest in area on the planet (WA). Show me someone who is prepared to "push" a K1200LT in the wet and I'll show you a brave person.
