This was posted on the BMW Motorrad Australia FB page on 11/2

The new 2014 BMW R 1200 RT and BMW R 1200 GS Adventure are starting to arrive at dealerships Australia-wide, talk to your local BMW Motorrad dealership about booking your next test ride

Absolutely hanging out to go and try one on for size!

Tony did you take one for a ride ? I have been in Tasmania on the bike for 2 weeks, great roads and police not around every corner. Have been thinking of buying a Multistrada but can't bring myself to part with K16 ! Maybe the RT is a solution ?
cheers Andrew

G'day Andrew - sorry for the delay, mate.

No, I have not ridden it yet - although Harold at Southbank has been at me to do so. The Multistrada is a great bike, and I have ridden a couple (Ducati Melbourne is just down the road from where I do some work - Victory/Indian Melbourne). However, service costs I find are prohibitive. If you like the twin, then I think that the RT is an excellent choice - I have had mine for over 4 years now, 70,000 km and absolutely love it. More then enough grunt and excellent handling and comfort.

Re: 2014 R1200RT release date ?

Have had mine for about three weeks now. Ebony metallic, fully loaded, waiting for the LED auxiliary lights (near the cylinder heads) and the BMW cylinder head protectors.
Due to crappy weather, I have not had the opportunity to get the 1000km on the clock, so that I can get the 1st service done and "really" open her up.

All the ones at the moment (or at least the 1st shipment) have come with a standard seat. Note that the bike is lower then the previous R1200RT, so now a lot more suitable for shorter riders.
The low and high seat can be ordered at no additional costs, but then you will have to order the bike specifically and it will take 2~3 months for delivery.
At this stage, all the bikes at the dealers here are "standard" seats.

The new Wethead RT is far more focused towards performance and a sporty ride then its predecessors and has heavily improved on low speed riding as the gearing has been lowered, at least compared to my old 2005 1200RT.

There are tons of improvements that make it the next evolutionary step, rather then another "update".

2014 R1200RT-SE/LC Ebony Metallic
