Cool Beryl Beemer needs new bacon slicers

And another set of front brake pads are installed ready to give their lives in the pursuit of keeping me upright in spite of these dumbass cage drivers we have here.

Installed some sintered Bendix MF203, from Motohansa, at $A51/set.

Pulled the old ones out and all four (4) anti-rattle springs had broken/were missing.

That was on the weekend.

Methinks that Beryl Beemer is due for some new bacon slicers. Thought I would measure them this afternooon, with my 0-1' vernier micrometer that I have in my bag, (yes we all normally carry one of these I suspect).

So the external rim edge of the disc is measured at 0.193".

the centre part of the disc is measured at 0.100".

the internal rim edge is measured at 0.195".

Hmmmmmm one would think that the disc faces would be parallel, all at 0.195" when new....that means I have chewed almost 50% off the thickness???? nahhhh that doesn't sound right.

Haven't the disc specifications here with me at work, (yeah I know....boring!) will need to look at tonight..

Has anyone any spare newish (well, "thicker") 5 point fixing bacon slicers for sale here in Oz?

Woooops almost forgot....how quiet Beryl is now with four (4) intact rattle springs, just amazing how much din those pads generated, thinking that the front end was going to fall off....it really was a huge ...did I say HUGE difference...no rattles YEAHHHHHhhhhhhh

cheers

Re: Beryl Beemer needs new bacon slicers

I think your rotors are in need of replacement if they are .100" . The original thickness is 5 mm & the min is 4.5mm or .18" for both front & rear.

ok had a ganders last night....says that the min limit on the front discs is 0.180"??????

so given that info looks like I am a little under spec....by about 80thou.

Seeing as I have had Beryl since Sept '99 to present (say Sept13) = 14 years.

Presume that discs were parallel when new at say 0.2"

Used 100 thou inch in 14 years = 7.1 thou per year on average

Therefore using BMS specs of 20thou max wear, the front discs as per my Sydney traffic stay alive usage will last not quite 3 years.

Soooooo all you Sydney K12LT'ers here in this rat race place, with a bike over 3 years old, and if you ride 6 days a week, time to check your front bacon slicers for wear.

PS please do this after someone has offered me newish discs very cheap..

cheers

Re: Beryl Beemer needs new bacon slicers

Anyone got a close-up pic of the anti-rattle springs in the '05 tokico callipers ? I think mine are not there and my pads rattle real bad when going slow, sounds like crap. I fixed it recently by sticking double sided tape under the stainless steel covers, which actually look as though they should touch the top of the pad lugs, but obviously they don't. All quiet since the tape addition but may not last.
