Freighting the LT in Oz - info please

Ok guys, as I sit here recovering from my left femur de-rotational osteotomy (try saying that after half a dozen Boags stubbies), I am looking into freighting the LT somewhere around Cairns from Tassie for our next trip. My idea is to fly up and spend at least 4 weeks riding back down the east coast to home. Has anyone had any experience with freight company's which they would like to pass on ? I have a feeing it may be expensive due to the overall length of the bike, as I don't think it will fit across (sideways) inside a container. All info gratefully accepted. Cheers, Dennis

No personal experience, but check with the bike freight companies Dennis, they ship bikes all round the country all the time, as I've been told.
Quick Google will bring up a few, here's the first one popped up... http://www.motorbiketransport.com.au/
and another
http://www.motorcycleexpress.com.au/
or..
http://shipmybike.com.au/index.html
There's quite a few I think....

So, just what did you do to yourself?

Yep Greg, actually I need a kick in the arse for leaving it that long. Fantastic result so far, really excellent surgeon (lady with saw and drill). I've already had a sneak sit on the bike and things feel totally different, much more comfortable now. Not too many are prepared to saw their leg in half, plate it up and screw it back together just to fit on the LT. Dedication I reckon Cheers, Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Just wondering if you ever got any quotes or ended up shipping your bike up and how much it ended up costing you
Cheers

Hi Bushy, mate they never came back to me, I was wanting a quote to freight the bike to Cairns or thereabouts, with the intention of spending a full 4 weeks riding back to Tassie. Any advice or leads would be handy. Also interested in taking the bike over to NZ. I think the overall length of the LT may be a problem with fitting sideways in a container, hence much more expensive. Cheers, Dennis. PS, do you know anything of my (ex) K100RT ?

Dennis I have used a guy that operates a removals business out of Launceston twice now to bring bikes back from Tassie to Brisbane.
He is brilliant and packs and treats the bike like fine china.
The only down side is that you ideally need to have somewhere to leave the bike at the drop off location as you need to work with his schedule.
Its been a couple of years since I last used him but he charged me $500 last time.
You can eat your dinner off of his truck and he is a lovely bloke.
Might be worth a phone call, speak to Chris himself.
Here is a link.

Sounds like a plan, thanks vey much for the info, I'll give him a call. Want to try and get the bike as far north as possible then fly up and ride back over 4 weeks or so.

Its what I've done twice Dennis only in reverse for me by riding down and around Tassie then freighting her home.
The first time was on my R1200GSA and the second on my K1200GT.
Good luck, I'm sure that you will find Chris great value and a lovely bloke too.
As a Queenslander, let me know if you need any more info.
