Cool State Revenue raising efforts

and now for something completely different......

I play tennis with a guy that showed me his latest donation to the State Revenue collection agency last Saturday....

He got a ticket through the post, detailed "disregard red arrow traffic light....camera detect"..or something similar to those words......and the donation required was

$A1,985, plus 3 points off the license of the person putting his name to the form as having driven the car.

Wow....that's serious $$. Traffic lights are the bain of my life..AAAAGGGHHHHhhhhhh painful.

Just think what you could do with $2k found lying on the floor, hmmmmmm (note to oneself, spend $2k on a pressy and just tell the wife you got pinged going through a red light...)

cheers

Re: State Revenue raising efforts

Guess he won the lottery
At least it wasn't this week, double demerits on top of the fine would've been the custard on top the Christmas pudding.

Re: State Revenue raising efforts

Phill,
Not sure what other offenses were involved, but from the RTA site.

Rule 56 (2)(c) Not stop before lights at red arrow* "6, $397, 3"

That stands for "Fine level, Fine $ Demerit points"

Hi Brian,
I saw the ticket that he had, and I couldn't believe the $$ level either.....but only had this one offence listed, plus the 3 points. I beleive the fines had all been greatly increased at end of October12, maybe the web site hasn't caught up but even that sounds a bit weird for such a item not to be correctly listed. the terminolgy was also a bit different from "not stop at lights" to something like "disregard red arrow signal, camera detect"....hmmmm maybe worth checking out the validity of something that comes through the post like that....I didn't notice any Nigerian post box in which to send the money off to...

cheers

Cool Re: State Revenue raising efforts

Aha the thick plottens,

My tennis friend was driving a company car, which now needs a nominated driver to put their name on the line to accept the 3 demerit points.... from the web site:

"From 1 July 2012, penalty notices for camera detected offences issued to companies will be 5 times the amount applicable to an individual. Once the driver responsible is nominated, within the specified timeframe, a notice will be issued in their name and the amount will reduce to the applicable individual amount."

Phew....for a moment there I was thinking that this was the norm fine....wow...would that put the cat amongst the pigeons....phew....I am still thinking at what a waste paying $2k in a fine would be.....damm just wiped the amount I could spend on a pressy for myself from $1985 down to $397.......nahhhh not worth the grief of the nag nag nag.

cheers
