'99 purple LT?

Friday evening around 7pm I was riding along Brighton-le-sands (Sydney) and caught up with a purplish coloured (Mauve?) '99 LT heading the same way. We rode together until we parted ways at Miranda, but never really had time at the traffic lights to talk properly.
Guess its not anyone on this list?
I found it very interesting travelling behind another LT, just seeing how damn wide those mirrors are!!

G'day Chris,

I don't spose it coulda been Prince by any chance?........was it raining at all?

The BMW Safari starting from Cessnock starts this weekend I believe, Sir Nils and his good wife will be disembarking from HMS "Spirit of Tasmania" this Thursday afternoon at 15:00, and partaking in the advance course of Sydney riding by travelling with my goodself as lead scout to the outer settlement of Denistone West.

We will then be travelling on the Friday morning up the old Cobb an Co road to Gosford and meet up with Hilton and Rena. A pleasurely cruise through The Entrance, Budgewoi, Toronto and Cessnock will follow, giving the Tasmanian landowners suitable opportunity to gaze and marvel at all the new modernisation that has occurred since Gov Phillip (no not me) allowed the importation of the K1200LT.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, how can you tell that I am enjoying this life of no work.....for as long as it lasts anyway...hehehhehehehe

Phill, if you and our other Aussie brethren keep up these discussions about riding to exotic (for us) locales, free of the everyday worries -- including work -- that we have, I'm going to insist that the moderators block your posts!

Sounds like an absolute blast to be able to ride our favorite machine in a land where there are such things as kangaroos, wallabies, and Tasmanian devils -- not to mention the scenery itself. Enjoy.

Question Hey Phil

... when do you reckon you'll be up on the central coast? I'm 10 minutes away from the mighty Budgie (in laws live at Buff Point). PM me or give me a call on 0417 267 449. Saturday is no good as my girls play netball, but Sunday I'll be home (domestic duties call ) at least I got a ride in last Sunday.......

Ride safe

Regards

Purple??
Wash your mouth out with soap.

Mauve is the correct colour.
I happen to have a 2001 model parked in my shed, and around this area it is a haed turner cos im yet to see any others like it.
I went past the local honda shop, Rising Sun Honda (www.risingsunhonda.com.au) and they have a Volcano Orange Goldwing for sale with Joe Rocket Stickers all over it. I dont know what the story is with it but i might drop in tomorrow and find out

Hey Dez

Have you seen the latest AMCN yet (page 30 Vol. 55 No. 18)? There is a GL 1800 that has been fiddled with by the Joe Rocket crew here in Oz. For a paltry $55k AUD you can have a GW that has a capacity of 2.8 litres, a claimed 182 kW at the rear wheel @ 9700 rpm and torque of 314 nM @ 6k rpm ! Breaks traction from 1st to 4th gear and Ken Wootton (AMCN writer) wasn't game to try it in 5th. Revised final gearing gives a theoretical top speed of 342 kmh.

All the bits are off the shelf Honda stuff and, according to the story, bolt up with minimal mods. Frame obviously requires strengthening and stiffening.

Still reckon the LT would give this wing a run for it's $

Hush my mouth Des, not knowing my purples from my mauves!! and I work in film where colour is everything!!

Re the GW, would it be this one in attached photo????
If so I rode it at the last Snowy Ride... was pretty impressed with the handling, just didn't like all the plastic bits, felt like I was sitting in front of a truck dash. Seat was real comfy though!

If anyone (Sydney bound) is up for ride this Sunday (April 2), a crew from my work are meeting at the Caltex at Kirrawee on Princes Hway at 8:30am Sunday, heading down the FS to do the Maquarie Pass, Robertson, Kangaroo Vally, Berry loop. Should be a nice day run, weather is 23 C & sunny.
You're welcome to join... Im on 0418411499

Nope aint bought my copy of AMCN yet. just waiting to get in to our new house (still) so i can go nuts and get some motorcycle mag subscriptions going again.

Yes with all that moolah you get a 2.8 litre GW with earth stomping torque...

but you still dont get a factory fitted GPS, heated seats, electric front screen, easy access to the battery (gold wing u have to remove at least 4 bolts, no flip top seat like our much loved LT), and no Paralever/telelever or duolever suspension.

*sigh*

I will stick with my LT for some time yet. Mind you im keeping my eyes open for someone here in Oz who can take my stock suspension and rebuild it.my stock suspension is pretty much stuffed, the rear end in particular.its like the rear end has run out of oil and is really doughy.

Yes, the Gold wing in this photo is the exact one for sale at Rising Sun Honda. It is a 2003 model with about 3000 kilometers on it.

There's a bloke out at Penriff, SOS Suspensions I think he is called. The Nepean branch president of the Ulysses group works with me and he had an '01 LT and he got his rear shock rebuilt, revalved, etc. by this cove. I think SOS Suspensions is a member of the Ulysses too.

Isn't that pretty much true for the off-the-shelf Honda frame?

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Yeah, that's pretty awesome... 182kW is about 245HP.

RBR Racing has a setup they claim to be able to consistently push to 300 HP on a K-bike, if you want to go the distance for about $9K USD (umm, that's about $13k AUD for 244kW ) - do it yourself, of course *grin*. Oh - and that's still just 1.2L...

See http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/bmwK1200.html

Frankly, after reading I'd like to start w/ their black hole exhaust / injector setup, and see 16% for starters from a Sat. afternoon bolt-on
