Rear brake pads....

A couple of questions....
1. where to buy new ones (pt# 34217680375) ? Last OEMS I got fitted at Procycles (Sydney) were ridiculous price, so I'm going to drop some new rears in myself.
Saw Daz bought some through Cyclebrakes.com, looks like EBC HH sintered are about US$34.40 at the moment...
could only see the Carbon Lorraine on Beemerboneyard at under US$30
Any preference on these 2 brands?

2. current pads are getting down, the inner pad is worn more than the outer pad... is it OK to swap the 2 pads (inner for outer) in the meantime while I'm waiting for new ones to arrive?

Re: Rear brake pads....

Chris,

If it were me I'd put them back in just the way I found them. You'll get all kinds of opinions about which pads. I got the ones from beemerboneyard and have no complaints with them. Great folks to deal with too, I've gone them several times.

Re: Rear brake pads....

agreed--put them back the way they were, otherwise you risk damage to the rotor and decreased braking function until they "even out."

I'm a big fan of the EBC HH pads, also would have no problem using the Carbon's. Either one will make you happy and likely be quieter than OEMs.

Re: Rear brake pads....

thanks for the feedback guys!
I have put them in the opposite way around already.... since I use the bike for commuting but mainly just "front brake" (yeah, I know they're linked..)
I'll be ordering some new ones asap!

cheers

Re: Rear brake pads....BRANDS?

Hmmm, the EBC Kevlar rear pads I ordered from the UK via Ebay (cheap sellout of old stock) haven't arrived after 4 weeks...
So while I'm still waiting (or will get a refund)...

Anyone got an informed opinion they'd like to share on the following makes/types?
Clymers tells me organic is standard for the rear...

options seem to be:
BMW OEM from Procycles at $88.00 (yes for 1 set rears)
EBC sintered from Procycles $59.95
Ferodo organic from Slipstream Performance $35.40 + ship
Ferodo sintered from same mob $45.91 + ship
Goodridge Organic from Munich Motorcycles $35 + ship
Goodridge (sintered?) from Munich Motorcycles $44 + ship
or

Anyone heard of these Metalgear organic brake pads or know anything about them (they seem too cheap at $15.50 + ship)

Re: Rear brake pads....

The EBC pads haven't arrived after 5 weeks, and so I bought a set of rears from Metalgear in Brisbane to get me by. $15.50 plus $7 postage... pretty cheap compared to all others I found online or enquired about.
Ordered late Friday afternoon, and they arrived first thing Monday morning....can't complain about that.
The pads' backing metal plate is much thinner than the OEM Brembo's, and doesn't have the extra metal plate attached that the Brembo's do (whatever its for... anti-squeal maybe?).
They went in without any issues, only took 5 minutes to swap them over, hopefully I've done it right...
Quick test ride and the bike pulled up OK, although the front did wobble violently with just the rears applied heavily (don't how how much front gets applied with the linked brakes when only using the rear peddle).
Here's the main differences in pics....
