Tyre Mileage

What kind of Mileage do you get out of your tyres? And what Tyres and size do you prefer?
I just got 14000km out of the standard Metzlers on my 03 LT..mostly highway riding one up.

Re: Tyre Mileage

sounds about right, I got 18000 out of my first tyre have never got anywhere near that since. I tow a camper so I prefer metz they will give you the highest mileage with out doubt and if you want grip I've used avons, the radials stick like sh#t to a blanket but low 7-8Kks is about all you will get on our roads probably a lot more on hotmix, they use like 1" scoria around here wears tyres real fast.

Edit: forgot to answer you question I get around 12Kkm out of a rear

Re: Tyre Mileage

Great question.

On my '99 LT, I get around 20,000 Km out of my rear ME880 and 26,000 Km from my front. I always use ME880's. I love them. I ride like a bit of a pussy but I regularly grind down those pesky centrestand corner bits that we all know about. Those corners have just about gone.

Cheers to all.

Re: Tyre Mileage

Put a new set of Metz 880's on front & rear before you leave and you should be good for the trip, plus some.
Towing the trailer all loaded and 2-up I made it to Karratha before I wore a hole in the rear tyre (some 8000km's) and I'd normally get around 12,000k's out of one through city commuting with the odd weekend trip or blast thrown in.
I'm still on the same front I put on for the big circle, so thats at around 20,000km now and still some life left.
Keep at around 42F/48R cold pressure and you'll be fine, if you're not towing then you should still have some wear when you get home.
Have a fun trip, just make sure your cruise is in good working order.... and get some mick-o-pegs, perfect for that trip over and back to stretch your legs out a little.

Gday mate,
Yep new set of 880's going on next week, already have the MOP's..I also just installed a peg lowering kit that uses the excisting pegs, so they still fold up. Not towing but have been thinking of getting a trailer..not sure that Id get the use out of it tho.

Re: Tyre Mileage

I purchased my '05 in early June from Noosa, QLD. it had 13,600 K's on it with an original Battlax 020 on the rear. The guy commented that it had a bit left in it, I now have 20,000 Km's on that tyre and it will probably go another 1000 till it gets to the wear bars. We ride a lot of 2 up so I run 50 psi in the rear and 44 in the front. The first front 020 lasted 12,000 K's and looks as though it will go till about 24,000 on the speedo, so another 12,000 out of the second front tyre. This is possibly due to the integrated braking on these heavy bikes, and the wear will be exacerbated by braking into corners I expect (while changing direction), not a good practice to get into. I have a new Metzeler Marathon 880 for the rear and will put the same on the front when due. They will have a hard act to follow, see how they go.
