I think I just can't win

Hi All

Well after much expenditure on serveicing and ABS modulator last month $6K + set of tyres, took off from the lights this morn and felt the slight slip of the clutch "oh dam!" and other expleitiffs from under the helmet, looked at the clutch resevior and sure enough stuff all fluid. Rang the Local service guy and estimate for clutch, pressure plates and slave cyclinder looking at just under $3K installed, about half is labour I know it is a time consuming job.
$9K+ in two months GEEES!
So to try and limit the damage been looking online to see if I can get after market parts, having a hell of a time, any one know where I can source new spares for this money guzzler?

You watch next month will be the bloody final drive!

Re: I think I just can't win

Shit Colin, thats rough all right.
Daza from Blue Mtns did his own clutch job last year.. thread here about getting parts in from Beemer Boneyard in the states.
I've had it done, but by the stealer, luckily mine was under warranty.
Hope you get some decent miles out of it soon.

Re: I think I just can't win

Yeah I read Daza's thread, just don't have a work shop, so trying to limit cost of parts.

Looked at the beemer boanyard, but they seem to only have friction plate, If I am changing the clutch then will change pressure plates as well. I hate buying stuff twice so would rather change the lot than have to redo the job in 6 months time. Daza seems to have changed pressure plates but they are not listed there.

Re: I think I just can't win

Colin,

Sorry about your issues...Sounds like things cost at least twice as much there as in the states..Ouch !

You rarely need to replace the pressure plate...Unless you've spun the crap out of it and burned it up....

You should, However replace every friggin seal and the slave cylinder while you're in there...

You certainly don't want to be going in there again any time soon..

Also, There was recently a group buy from Sidenbrock or something like that for CERAMIC clutch disks...Maybe somebody can direct you to that supplier...Perhaps they made a few extra to sell after the fact....

Good Luck

What a bummer Col.

Come on over here to Adelaide to the best private BMW tech in the country. He is more than half the hourly rate of BMW Australia and will source parts for you. PM me if you need more info.

Cheers Col
