Alice to Sunshine Coast via Snowy Mts

Hi
Next Saturday ( Jan 9th ) I am picking up my stored 1200RT in Alice Springs and I have 9 days to get home again to the Sunshine Coast.
Route includes Alice to Port Augusta - Clare Valley - Echuca - Albury- Khancoban - Cooma - Bega -
Kangaroo Valley- Port Macquarie- Walcha- Armidale- Toowoomba- Mooloolaba.

Any suggestions on good side roads or great pubs to visit, stay at or spots not to miss would be greatly appreciated.
I have done this trip a couple of times , but not since 2001.
The Oxley is a must ride and The Alpine way is at this time of the year as well. The GOR is not.
Prefer to avoid highways were I can, and have planned as much back roads as possible?
Personal recommendtions are always better than the internet tourism sites.

best regards
Paul

Try and include Thunderbolt Way in your run.... it starts north of Newcastle (if I remember correctly) and takes you inland north. I did it coming back from Coffs Harbour to Sydney a few years ago... a great road... Have a great time
cheers

As you plan to go via Walcha anyway, take the Oxley Hyw east to Wauchope. Then turn around and head back to Walcha. You will enjoy the diversion. As CWS said, Thunderbolts Way is good too.

Re: Alice to Sunshine Coast via Snowy Mts

G'day Paul,
I got home by plane on Saturday, leaving Kay (K1200LT with number plate "KAY 12") at Coastline BMW. I will find out later today how much it will hurt the wallet.
The way I went north from home, near Cessnock, was: Pacific Hwy north of Raymond Terrace to Bucketts Way, to Glocester, then Thunderbolts Way to Walcha, then Oxley Hwy to Wachope & Pacific Hwy. Stopped overnight at Nambucca Heads, then north on the Pacific to Urunga, turn off to Waterfall Way & Dorrigo, then take a short-cut to Tyringham, Nymboida, to Grafton. From there north on Summerland Way to Casino, Kyogle, then the Lions Road across the Qld border to Beaudesert and to the in-law's near Browns Plains.
On a trip 2 years ago, I continued north through Esk, Yarraman, Goomeri, to Ban Ban Springs, before turning towards the Bruce Hwy south of Gin Gin.
Hope you have a great & safe ride home.
Peter.

Hi peter
just back from the trip today. Did 5643 km's. Had a fabulous time. Rode great ocean road, black spur, Alpine way, kangaroo valley, Oxley and many more.
Great wether. Temps between 46 deg and 13deg. Only slight rain on 2 days. Bike performed flawlessly.
Hope the Lt is fixed soon. Thanks for the tips.
regards
Paul
