Cool New SS braided brake lines for Beryl Beemer

G'day,
Beryl is now more than 10 years old and has the odd 182,000kms....plus 11kms on the clock.
Have been noticing that the front brake is getting a bit on the spongy side the last couple of months. Have bled from master cylinder to calipers a couple of times, but still the same feeling. Braking good to a point then you feel the lever slip a little bit as though the fluid is seeping past a seal or something. reminds me greatly of my XS1100E I rode for 21 years before Beryl took over the mantle.
Had a ganders at what some of the USA guys have done, plus ST from up in Rocky, who had the misfortune of having a pin hole in one of the brake lines. sourced OEM Oz and they gave him a price of $A210 or something for the one line, but none in the country. Shane sourced OEM somewhere in USA and getting the part, plus freight. for about 60-70% cost Oz part.

I saw the www.Spieglerusa.com recommendation from the USA guys, so have been talking to them. Spiegler only ship to USA and Canada...doh! however gave me a contact with "Wild Hair Accessories".

Soooo now I am chatting with Irfan from Wild Hair. Below is some of the email traffic between us:

Hi Phil
No problem, we ship to Australia.

The price for the 6 line kit is US$259.00 with black fittings/black lines.
Shipping to Australia is US$30.00
Your total would be US$289.00.

Shipping tme is around 2 weeks depending on Australian customs.

To order, please call 623-581-1994, fax 623-581-1994 or e mail us the following information.
Accessories you would like to order, for what bike, what year, your name and shipping address, phone number in case we have to call you.
We don't charge your card before the accessories arrive
We accept Visa/Master card and Paypal.

Most international customers send us two mails.

When we have all information, we will send you an invoice via e-mail and order the accessories.

Thank you for your interest.
If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Spiegler do the brake lines in various colours, also the fittings. Beryl is pretty conservative so opted for Black on Black.

Sooooo have ordered the 6 line kit...Oz to USA exchange rate pretty good the mo.

Will let you know how it goes, as I am sure there are others who may want to look at taking the same path here (like with battery replacements...CWS!!! hahahha).

cheers

I live in Europe so am going to order mine from these people.

Let us know how it goes. Am planning on changing mine ( itīs a 2005 ) when the brake fluid is due to be changed again, sometime next year.

Hi Simon, well whatdyaknow...nope Spiegler never mentioned these people at all when I emailed them a couple of times....nothing like keeping your distributors in the picture huh??? they sent me details of Wild Hair Accessories only.

I'll give these guys a ring next week and see what their price is...should be interesting..hmmmmm surely they can not be cheaper than Wild Hair????.... gonna be depressing if they are..hahahah

You live in Europe you say...looking at the weather on the TV news....you're gonna have plenty of time on your hands in which to do this. I was gonna strip the tupperware off Beryl this xmas break to fix a fuel cell leak I have, but have now decided to leave it until the new brake lines arrive...will take some photos of the step by step....haven't looked to see if already existing yet on the site but if not will post.............raining here in Sydney, not too cold, sat outside yesterday with a glass or two of red, very pleasant, not too many mozzies either.

cheers

Hi Phill,

Here is the link for the worldwide distributors, http://www.spiegler.de/en/service/spiegler-world-wide

I am not too clear as to whether Spiegler is a German or a US company.

Iīm a Brit but live here so weather not too bad at the moment. The one thing I leave to the "professionals" are the brakes and changing the fluid, so they can install the lines as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majorca

Cool Re: New SS braided brake lines for Beryl Beemer

Just an update,.... Spiegler brake lines arrived from "Wild Hair Accessories USA" yesterday...good stuff.
Attached a couple of pix of the goodies.

Now gotta find some time in which to do the changeover......along with all the other items of maintenance...fuel filter, air filter, plugs, fuel cell repairs, blah blah blah.....

cheers

hi Simon,
Phoned up that company, they were not one iota interested, and recommended some other supplier who I couldn't find a phone number for.....Spiegler via Wild hair was much more responsive.

Sooooo fitted the two front calliper flexibles and the front main from T piece up into the nose cone area Saturday morning. Didn't have to remove any tupperware, and pretty straight forward. Took about an hour and half.
Haven't noticed any improvement at all, but I still have the handlebar master cylinder flexible to change, plus the rears.
Have compiled a step-by-step "how to" .....which is exactly that, a step by step.....rather than include about 2-3 steps in the one....very basic....but easy to follow.
Have tried to attach this doco, but at 2.5Mb is too large....I will add to it when I do the others, and need to pdf it somehow.....just needed to get things buttoned up and off to tennis Saturday afternoon heheheh.

Hi Chris/Simon,
Heyyy that freebee site works ok....have reduced original doco down to 1.2Mb or so...will attach it here.
Have thought that it would have shrunk it down either further???????......I'll send the finished doco to you when have done the handlebar master cylinder flexible and the two rears to see what you can shrink it to....thanks CWS....

Phil

A bit late now, but here in NZ the service manager at the local BMW dealership simply got SS lines custom made up when replacing my front lines. They were cheaper than the OEM parts.

Morning Simon,... in Palma Island (ya know I just had to see what those home coordinates were...hehehhe)

No problemo....as mentioned, haven't added the handlebar one as yet, or the rears....will repost when I do. The handlebar one looks like it will be easier if I take the tupperware off, which I need to do to repair the fuel cell (have a fuel leak, which limits me to only adding 11.5 litres at a time), plus air and fuel filters. Have previously done a tupperware removal procedure on this site, should you need it.

cheers, from a wet, miserable, first days of Autumn, Sydney, Oz

Re: New SS braided brake lines for Beryl Beemer

Hi Phil,

Real term would be island of Mallorca ( Majorca ), Palma is the capital.

You live on a slightly bigger one.

Got the tupperware removal down to a fine art, thanks. Do most of the maintenance myself except for the brakes and bleeding. I leave that up to the nearby local dealer so that they can check the computer after the job is done, and also see if the bike has other faults.

Look forward to seeing instalment # 2 . I may then decide to do it myself.
