Re: Dearer to Ride a Motorbike in New Zealand !!!!

you all must ride a lot fewer cars and a lot more motorcycles to come up with figures like that. And if they are going to try to push folks from 2 wheelers back to 4 wheelers, they better plan on more fuel use, pollution, and traffic congestion.

+1 and good luck with the protest.

Oh dear. Heading there on a three week self guided tour in January. Hope it doesn't put up the rental charges.

Regards,
Kieran.

Its punishment of the innocent and reward for the guilty. The car runs into you and you have to pay the levy.

For those that don't know, NZ has a no fault accident policy...the victim cannot sue the perpetrator if involved in an accident. The medical bills for all accidents are paid out of a central fund filled by a levy on wages/salary and part of vehicle rego's. As the Fund is now severely in the red, they are reassessing the contributions and taking a strict user-pays line of reasoning.

Cool Re: Dearer to Ride a Motorbike in New Zealand !!!!

G'day Ian,
Heyyyy only 16 times more liable to get injured huh????? must have a lot of steady riders there?? heheh

Soooo NZ is only short some $NZ49.7million....can you make up the short fall for all your other fellow BMW riders in NZ......doh!

Looking at some of these Highway Patrol TV shows that are all from NZ it's no wonder there's a short fall....no one seems to bother to get a license or road registration for their vehicle. It must be like a pigeon shoot for the cops....soooooooooooo many pigeons and just not enough ammunition...hehehehhe just one guy got hit for a couple of $000 for some diesel excise related to the amount of mileage on the vehicle, plus bald tyres, blah blah blah......

Just wondering when you say it will be dearer, how does the cost compare to say Oz? I must dig out what I pay per year and we'll see if this place is the lucky country......

cheers
