New tyre Option

HI All
It would seem that we have another option for our front tyre, there is another version. ME8800vp has reinforced side walls to handle the extra weight of the K1200lt. This may also help in tyre wear. Time will tell
regards Kevin

That is interesting. I haven't heard of the LT having problems with the sidewalls on the 880's. I wonder what the vp stands for.

880vb

Hi All
Sorry to cause confusion but between us we mixed the letters up (more like me) it is the 880vb this tyre is what metzler has recommended after a long conversation with their tech dept and also BMW Australia and Procycles service dept(6hrs mobile phone bill LOL).

It would seem that this will be the only option at this stage. There is a consenus that there has been a trade off with regards to bike design and weight. The 2003lt up to before last design change basically were pigs of bikes at low speeds to turn and handle, with the new design and extra wieght the current bike handles very well.

Hence now tyre wear is more pronouced and because of a number of factors like road camber and road surface etc, we now are seeing an increase in uneven wear patterns which add in this shudder as the tyre gets older and close to use by klms the more pronouced the shudder.

After talking to metzler regarding this (which they know of the problem)plus via email to confirm the situation I was informed that they are taking the problem very seriously and there may be a possible solution( although could not say when )

So after along day and sore ear and one flat battery is that the shudder is here to stay and depending on your choice of new tyre how long it lasts
but from Procycles they will only put the 880vb on the K1200LT

I do hope the above info helpful

regards Kevin

Sounds like the standard tyre supplied with (and since replaced twice) my '05 then, which I'm quite happy with:
Metzeler

r: ME880 Marathon MBS 160/70 B 17 M/C 79V REINF.

Thanks for the follow-up Kevin!
