She took her first nap

It is the middle of school holidays, so have been busy keeping the kids happy. This means no time for riding.
Today I found a couple of hours free on a sunny spring day to get out and run some errands.
After completing a couple of stops, arrived at the office carpark with many thoughts running through my mind. Be quick, the kids will be back soon and you need to be there when they get home. Do I leave the new $750 gps on the bike? ( the new one does not come with a security lock. Go figure)
Do I put the bike up on the center stand or side stand? Side stand. Kill engine and wait for oil to drain. Back to GPS, what should I do. Decision made to remove it and put in the top box. Focus on getting the GPS off. Remove key.
Oil has drained, time to hop off. As I start to lean to the side stand I start asking myself, did I deploy it or not. NOT. Realised it had gone too far and let her go down for a nap.
Had an initial attempt at picking her up and decided to enlist help. Swollowed pride and went and asked a colleague to assist.
Had the girl for 3 years and hope we don't have to go through this experience for some time to come.

ha ha Onya Brian #15 for me, on way home from Sydney 100ks from home with the camper on the back, I just wait until everyone races over to see if I'm alright, get in the middle of the bike with someone each side and when they lift I just pretend I'm helping to lift, works every time LOL.

Re: She took her first nap

I guess I should own up to this also. My first time out this year not long ago, my wife left in the car on a Friday evening and drove to our daughters vacation lot for the week end. I took the bike out of the garage. Rolled down to a patch of drive way I thought would be OK. Had trouble trying to deploy side stand due to the Illium Works platforms being in the way. Looking down to my left to see what I was doing. She went over to the right throwing me off. I tried to get her back up as shown in the videos. But my driveway is gravel. The bike kept slipping and moving away from me. I felt a panic coming on as we live on an acreage with nothing but older people around me. The wife would then be over an hour away so couldn't call her back. Lost a lot of strength due to heart surgery a few years ago. Finally I gathered myself together caught my wind and tried again. The bike finally caught traction and nearly at the point of my legs giving out she came up and onto the side stand. I needed to rest for over 30 minutes to regain my strength again before I felt comfortable to ride. Once underway I could feel my back, shoulders and legs beginning to show signs of pain which steadily increased due to lack of use then being put into action. Pretty much strained myself. This spoiled my weekend, by the next day I could hardly move. It took until the middle of the week before I started to feel better. Since then I use centre stand only, more careful where I park etc. do not want to do this again. If it should happen and I cant manage on my own to get her up. I think this bike will be gone for a lighter one. Love biking, love my LT but love life more. Don't want to blow a line lifting the heavy girl again.

Pfft, mate I dropped mine in the car park of Maccas a couple of weeks ago with Kate on the back (stupid speed humps!). Just another to add to the list of many.
Glad you didn't try to hold her as one Mr Wilson did, he has recovered well from his hernia operation.

Re: She took her first nap

Does it count if you drop it in the show room prior to first ride.
I kid you not, on purpose too.
I had decided to prove to myself I could lift her up if needed without help.
I'll never forget the horrified look on the sales guys face when I told him what I intended.
Anyways, all went well and I was happy.
Still have the vid somewhere.

That was the first of so many I've lost count after all these years.
Never done damage, other than the odd scuff mark.
Love this bike.

Cheers.
